you would be surprised how many ppl miss you whilst in your jump suit. The colour breakdown of all your other gear actually breaks up the plain OD colour. Mag pouches, Bino Pouch, Musette Bag, Your rifle (and possibly sling) scrim on helmet etc all help. Its also another reason to wear a shoulder holster. As its another colour to add to the mix.

I'm not sure about the 'antique' look but I do believe the 'straight out of the Soldier of Fortune box' luminous tan ain't authentic at all - just prior to the D-Day operations all the jump suits were soaked in foul-smelling and oily anti-gas gunk - so looking darker and lived in right from the off.

Here's an amusing little link on the "correct" colour for US gear. [link]http://www.atthefront.com/us/uniforms/whatiskhaki.html[/link]

You've not been watching Pathfinders - In The Company Of Strangers have you...because I wouldn't recommend using that as a base for anything. I've seen episodes of the Teletubbies which made more sense than that film.

Pathfinders used green aircraft paint, in daubs all over the uniform, however I can only mirror what everyone else has said, don't paint your kit, it probably won't help too much with camouflaging yourself and it'll totally ruin the jumpsuit. Also you'll stick out like a sorethumb if you're with a group of other Airborne types...

Show me a man who will jump out of an airplane, and I'll show you a man who will fight!

Yeah don't restrict your kit to something which can only be used for a microscopic percentage of the forces used during the war.

Ideal time of year for it, put on your jump suit only,

1 - go roll around in the mud, make sure it's properly caked on
2 - take off jump suit and let it naturally dry out (dont put it on a radiator)
3 - wack it with a big stick to break all of the clumps of dirt off (preferably not in your mother's living room)
4 - You jump suit will look grimey, all of the dirt will be mixed in with the fibres so it will take the bright SOF jumpsuit sheen off it

:good:

Anyone got any tips on how to make my SOF jump suite camo like the 101st pathfinders durin Normandy??

Another necropost here, but Pathfinders in the 101st weren't known for camouflaging their jumpsuits in the same way that Pathfinders in the 82nd Airborne were. I have however heard that some used light green paint, because they thought that their jumpsuits were too dark in colour. To the best of my knowledge there is NO photographic evidence of this though.

Hope this helps.
Regards
Joe
