helmet strips tips

Hi guys, just ordered some bits and pieces and never had hessian strips for my helmet before, is it a simple weave them in and they stay or any advice for patterns etc.

Roll them in your hand to 'scrunch' them up a bit, flat scrim looks poor and doesnt work as well. There was a tendancy for the US to take long strips and weave those in and out the net. The Brits tended towards shorter lengths often tied on.
Google some images of the unit you are covering to see how they did theirs?
For example the 82nd in Normandy were not big users of scrim whilst a good proportion of the 101st did.

thanks for the scrunching advice, will give that a go, will they just stay put if i weave them in and out?
someone at an open day told me they put wax on theirs and it made them stick, dont know weather that was just me being gullable or not

Greasing them with axle grease helps to flatten them against the helmet a little bit...so you don't end up with a 'scrimfro'

got it sorted and used it at the weekend which was successfull =)

thanks for the advice guys, had horrible sticky hands after greasing the strips but did the job :good:
