I was wondering if any of your think the SOF 101st airborn jumpsuit set is any good? its only 99pounds and thats about as much as i have. been trying to work out the small amount of money i have and keep coming up trumps each and every way i look at it.
The outfit : "M1942 reinforced jump suit, ready for the Normandy campaign. This is ready to wear with the 101st Airborne screaming eagles badge and the invasion stars and stripes flag badges already sewn on. These suits feature all the features of the originals like the reinforced patches on the knees, elbows and pockets and the leg ties. These have the colour of an unissued uniformed with the addition of an extra chest pocket sewn onto the shoulder. Suit includes the trousers and the jacket which have the extra pocket and badges already sewn on.

i was just wondering if this would be an OK

hope u guys can help me. Thanks very much.
Jake.

Right what I have read about the SOF 101st set
1) The stars and stripes patch was not worn by the 101st on D-Day
2) shoulder pockets were not so common
3) the SOF material is aparently weak thin and rips

Personaly if you were buying from SOF i would just buy the regular jumpsuit and a badge for £75 which is more accurate than the 101st set and saves you some money you can spend on reinforcing the stitching.

Best thing consult the kit gides at the top of the page, 82nd one for early war and D-Day 101st one for late war Market Garden onwards.

You might take a look at Epic's US kit - give Julian a ring if you have questions about about quality or sizing.

Id highly recommend this guy:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Memory1945_Clothing_US-Uniform_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ8103892QQftidZ2QQtZkm

The suits are high quality and at a fraction of the cost of a SOF jumpsuit. They sell uniform sets (jacket & trousers) for £56-60. postage is £16

Few guys have them on here, i bought one after being recommended.

I was looking at getting a set of HBTs from them... unfortunately the sets he does don't suit my size! Either the trousers will be too tight or the jacket too big! gah!

(BTW, anyone got any recommendations on where to get HBTs, SoF seem to be the cheapest, but are they any good?

From my experience, no. Look elsewhere. The material is thin and stitching sub-standard. My ATF jumpsuit is wonderful and the material is very hard wearing. Some of the SoF and other cheaper jumpsuits I've seen are made of thin cotton, like regular trousers. My ATF one is more of a denim weave and much stronger.

M43s are more usable in winter and much warmer than M42s. M42s are right for Normandy, M43s for MG onwards, although there are references to M42s being worn beyond MG.

You pays your money, you takes your choice. As I've said elsewhere; buy cheap, buy twice.

What about Epic? Are they any good? ATF is good, but is in the US, which is a pain if I get the wrong size!

I've never understood why anyone would buy the 101st jump suit over the standard one from SOF. £30 more for 2 patches and an extra pocket? :? You must really hate sewing to pay that much more.

Thats what I said, and the US flag patch is wrong annyway and I always thought the extra pocket looked stupid so the cheaper one is a much better choice.

I was led to believe but could be wrong that apart from the ATF jump suits all the others no matter from where-SOF,EPIC,Ebay sellers etc are all the same Chinise/Far Eastern made suits that for the money arent that bad.

Granted apparently the ATF suits are THE BEST but what with the crap exchange rate, expensive shipping and getting stung with Customs etc they are expensive :( :(

Yep,i bought a jump suit from Aviator on Ebay a while back and unfortunately like a lot of other China/Far eastern sellers ive bought off the sizes are way off

I ordered a 42R jkt-jkt i recieved was indeed inkstamped as a 42R but fit closer a 40R-luckily im a skinny enough git to have got away with it but would have prefered a 42R size.Trs were ok but waist size isnt stamped on them just the Inseam size.

Although let us look at how many 'stich counting' re-enactors we see running round with added pockets, US Flags on Arms and portraying Co. E 506th PIR. I mean even 82nd Guys are now doing the pockets on arms mod. And as far as I am aware only a few bods in the 506th had it done. Yet the world and his wife sport it now.

I have PLENTY of photos of the 506th wearing the arms pocket...it has been discussed before, at which point I provided lots of examples of them being worn in the field and also looking as if they were being utilized. As for the world and his wife...I can't talk for the 82nd but the 506th DID use them.
I know a lot of people portray Co. E 506th PIR or atleast 506th, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that it was a high profile, well trained and prestigious unit which fought gallantly through the war and people shouldn't moan. People who have M42's with a screaming eagle don't necessarily portray Co E. 506th, it could be any company in the whole Division.
After a while it grinds a little; nobody moans that ALL the Brits are either South Staff or Para's (I certainly don't, I think you all look brilliant) and personal preference should be respected.

HOWEVER I DO AGREE ABOUT THE FLAG, IT STANDS OUT AND ISN'T HISTORICALLY ACCURATE. IF ANY SOLDIER DID HAVE IT ON FOR THE JUMP IT WAS QUICKLY TAKEN OFF WHEN THEY HIT THE GROUND.
