Not sure if this is the correct section but looking at a German/SS load out (sorry, but they did have the best uniforms!)
I have been airsofting for some three years now and fancy a change but am after a little advice on weapons, not "wats the bets gun i cann get" type of question but what would be the most useful to turn up with for an event?
My usual role is as a support gunner but although I would dearly love to carry the MG42 I can't find/afford/hide one from the wife, I understand the limitations of gas and can work with that but don't want to be out gunned by the fire power of an AEG, so my question is "what weapon would be most realistic & useful for the team"?
Thanks.
If you want an AEG, then an MP40 or MP44 would be your best bet. I personally prefer the MP40 - I only have lo-caps, but I have never felt outgunned at an open day. (As regards realism, the MP44 was not available before 1944.)
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
MP40 all the way. I have used it several times at a normal Blat fest with low caps and slotted many an AK or M4 user. There is something nice about taking someone out with a classic weapon. The MP44 I would love to have (Expensive) but they limit their use if you are going by the book to 1944. PS get a side arm as well I picked up a WE Lugar for £82 Gas blow back with awsome results.
Wot they said...
MP40s are cheap, not too hard to get hold of, and very sturdy. I'm not too sure about the WE Lugers myself. Hänschen's may be fine but the gas mags are temperamental buggers for most people.
Thanks people, seems that the MP40 is the one (or should I say "the first one" you know how it is)
Deffo the MP40, I love mine, never given me a day trouble.
Thanks, think it will be the MP40 (to start with)
Has anyone experience of ordering from "At the front" in the USA? Is their gear any good? It looks it but what do I know!
At the Fronts' kit is very good. It's also expensive and their postal rates cost a bomb too and you're likely to get clobbered for import duty. If you want good quality German kit, there's plenty of suppliers in the UK, such as Militaria.net, Epic militaria (both of these have sections in the "marketplace" on this forum), or, there's Richard Underwood as well.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Thanks for the speedy replies, only noticed them as I was trying to get a decent helmet that would fit my pin head!
Import duty, don't like that!
There is a reason for that Angel, all will be revealed soon! (nowt to do with me, I should state!)
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Thanks, think it will be the MP40 (to start with)
Velcro, do yourself a favour and get a pack of King Arms MP40 midcaps as well.
If nothing else they're a lot more reliable than the 50 round locaps.
Cheers, will do.

Oooh - I'll take the Pepsi Challenge on that. Everyone I know who uses the KA mags has needed to do some fettling to make them fit and feed properly.
I love my lo-caps. The familiar BRRRRPP of the odd self-emptying mag is a reassuring sound
Heh... yes I fettled the gun once when I got them, though just pushing them in hard worked as well to be honest.
Since then they have never failed me. No jams, no spurting bbs out when you load them, no falling apart and getting part of them stuck in the mag well.
All of the latter things have happened with the locap MP40 mags I have.
Well, I'm a Pepsi man myself so some sort of investigation will have to be carried out me thinks.
As I can lay down a pretty good beaten zone as a support gunner I tend to go the other way (ooh err) & only use mid or lo's, usualy 4-6 mids will last me a game or two!
Do some investigation on helmets as well mate.
Unlike Brit and US helmets, German ones have non adjustable liners AND different shell sizes. You need to make doubly sure you're getting the right size for your head:
Liner (cm) - Shell (cm)
52/53 cm - 60cm
54/55 cm - 62cm
67/57 cm - 64cm
58/59 cm - 66cm
60-61 cm - 68cm
62-63 cm - 70cm
Richard Underwood sells German kit that is every bit as good as ATFs. It will probably work out cheaper as well.
Thanks, know about the helmets, trying to find 54/55 - 62! Needs to fit to be comfortable but more importantly to look good
Might have to give him a call although he is only showing large sizes!
regarding the KA mags. spray them with loads of silicon spray, push a cleaning rod into them to help loosen up the internals and roberts your mothers brother. Not had a single issue with mine and put a fair feww bb's through them
Thanks, know about the helmets, trying to find 54/55 - 62!
Such small sizes are normally cheaper. The larger sizes command a premium. Repros are usually of the larger sizes for this reason.
SoF have original shells in small sizes. RAU should be able to find you one.
