I believe some of the earlier MP40s had a less than effective hop unit and some people swapped it out with an AK unit (I think), the later MP40s were apparently better. I had an early MP40 and never had a problem, the hop was acceptable to me.

same here jonny,

ive had two agm mp 40`s, both had hop units that were ok, and both were bought within 6 months of the gun being released.

The hop on mine was okay. But I noticed that at long range the bbs would head off in any old direction. I've actually been shot at by a player with an MP40 who aimed at my chest, but every bb flew off on a different direction around me. That was at about 30 feet and I shot him with an accurate shot from my tommy gun which was probably running at 250fps at the time.

Anyway, what I did to mine was actually modify the hop unit and put a tightbore barrel in rather than putting an AK one in. There's a document I can send you to explain how. Anyway, now my Mp40 fires straight as a die. In fact the last person to use it came and told me how amazingly accurate he thought it was.

The problem with the original design is that the hop rubber does not sit in the metal barrel itself, but in a plastic bit of barrel which is part of the hop unit. That means there is a step in the bbs travel, a loss of air and also I suspect the barrel isn't very tight.

ive fired about 500 rounds throught it yet, so nowhere near enough to bed the hop in. though it seems to be pulling to the left a lifle bit. more than anything I just wanted to get a bit of info on the issue just in case!

just have a play around and see what's best, and remember not to have it too high, or it will jam all of the time.

but like what yith said, get a tightbore, cant go wrong.

it gives the BB less space to wriggle around after the hop unit thus making it more effective.

i'd also invest in a decent hop unit, because thats what really what makes the difference with accuracy and range.

Now a 'namsofter. I have an M72 L.A.W. for sale for 110 posted, PM if interested.
