firstly I apologise if this has been brought up before but I have been on the search feature and found nothing so I was hoping I could pick the brains of those who understand these gun thingumies.
I fiddled (yes I am afraid that this entire post will be full of such technical terminology) with my MP40 the other day after it 'played silly buggers' at lightning and think I managed to figure out the problem.
When I just put the magazine in (the low cap ones), hold it still, point it at the curtain and fire it is OK, great in fact, but after 'jiggling' a little bit the Magazine comes loose very very easily. So consequently when ever I moved with the magazine in, even if holding it, the magazine came loose and (in my logical reasoning of gun workings, if not knowledge) messed up the feeding part. Thus on the occasions I did fire it I saw one bb fly out that was 'in' the gun, and then it just rattled on. That, by the way, was why I walked around with my pistol so much at Lightning - I knew at least when I fired it that things would fly out of it!
Now my complete ignorance of such things says to me - These magazines look to be held in by friction. Surely if I simply widen the magazine with a device such as electricians tape this will solve the problem - However as I am an idiot in these matters I thought it might be best to run my tale by you experts and see if this has happened to anyone else, or what you have to say.
Many thanks
Craig
If it works when firing at the curtain why not drape the enemy in curtains. Maybe just a light muslin would do the trick?
Common problem with many AEGs - wobbly magazines causing misfeeds! I can't comment on the fitting of the MP40 mags, but my Star L85 has exactly the same issue. Solved with, as you identified, insulation tape (and some gaffer tape). Rather than wrap it around each mag, I strategically placed inside the mag well - has to be replaced every so often, but its much better than trying to kill the enemy with fresh air!

Heh, the mags are held in by a catch not friction - that's why you have a release button. Does it happen with all mags (problem with gun) or one mag (problem lies with mag). Do the mags push in with a click?
As Chommers says ...not enough cats .
The MP40 mag is held in with a cast catch , activated by the large round button. By unscrewing the button and putting some shims behind it, the catch can be made to sit further into the magwell and grip the mag better .The catch wears with age as it's only monkey metal ...as opposed to cat metal .
Thank you for mocking my lack of cat , it is a tender subject.
1. Yes it goes in with a click
2. It happens with all Mags
3. It would make sense that it was held in with a catch , this is why I posted.
3. It is old (well third hand at least) so I shall have a look at the catch when I get home
hey,
i had same problem with my mp40 but chommers advised me with a method similar to what guy has said and i don't have any problems with the mags falling out.
Now were on to a plan... Though what's a 'shim'?

They're like really small washers. You get a little bag of them with replacement TM gears, or you can buy them seperately, just look for "gearbox shims" on a suitable website.
Edit - like here http://www.fire-support.co.uk/store/com ... ategory=35
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Thaks for the edit.
I tried typing it into google and all these diagrams came up that made me feel quite perculiar...
I seem to remember small washers will do - no need for anything esoteric. Once you take it to bits it will be obvious what size you need, then pop down to B&Q.
In case you have not guessed. it succeeded!
That's right, Craig put down his G&T and book of Eighteenth Century romantic poetry and picked up, with due trepidation, the screwdriver.
Well it took a bit and, with a bit of a hand from Yith to make me realise why I was doing it, an extra washer and a slightly stretched spring the thing is now as sturdy as, well a rather sturdy thing.

yey for craig...!
:good: next time we surprise a jerry sentry box craig, THEY will die not us,,,,,
Oh yeah!
Resurrecting an old post, but I now have the same issue and I can't work out exactly where to mount a washer to make the catch protrude any further into the mag well. It works fine if I exert some pressure on the outside of the mag clip with my thumb, but once I let go of it the clip on the inside fails to engage with the magazine properly.
Where do you put a washer to make any difference ? I must have missed something.
