Okay I'm going to give my new MP40 a full parts upgrade and I think I've got the majority of the parts sussed.
It's some sort of V3 pattern box so V3 parts will fit.
Element Vortex bearing spring guide
Element Silent piston head and nozzle set for V3(to kill the stress on the box front)
new element 6mm oiless bushings
Guarder SP90 spring (the one in it was trimmed for CQB sites)
I think these are compatible but if anyone spots anthing wrong let me know.
As I was putting a new head and nozzle I thought I'd go the whole hog and fit a new piston and cylinder -
Guarder full teeth (for Marui aeg's)
But what type of cylinder will fit a V3?
Most sites neglect to say what cylinders will fit a V3 but theres plenty of V2's and random aeg's there.
Stock V2/V3 cylinder. As the MP40 has a near-as-dammit MP5 length barrel, get a cylinder thats ported for a barrel of this length.
Whilst you're in the box, might as well make sure that AoE (Angle of Engagement) between first tooth on sector gear and first tooth on piston is perfect as well - means pistons last a LOT longer!

Will do! My aim for the internals is to have a decent workhorse AEG running around the 330 mark with good hop range.
I'm going to give this MP40 the works. -
Full gearbox rebuild
New hop unit (maybe customise the one on it or replace with an AK)
Tightbore barrel
Mosfet and new trigger unit
Open up the charging handle slot
Full strip and blueing
Recast the plastic panels in a more authentic bakelite material
Custom hicap (for open days)
Engraved markings
(hopefully)
Will any AK hop unit (marui compatible) fit or does it have to be genuine TM?

doing this mod on my mp40 hop-up, have a new tight-bore barrel, h nub and hop rubber on order
all marui meck box cylinders except uzi are the same length ,bore and outer diameter.the difference is in the port cut into the side of the cylinder, for long barreld guns there is no port as they use the full piston stroke before the bb leaves the barrel, short barrel guns have a port cut further toward the front of the cylinder as the bb will have left the barrel before the piston reaches the full stroke.there are two reasons for fitting the correct cylinder,1 is that once the bb has left the barrel the piston will move forward without resistance causing greater impact with the cylinder head causing damage in the long run,2 a verry slight increase in cyclick rate (rate of fire).if you want to truely optomise a short barrel gun then the removal of the last two or three teeth on the sector gear will reduce the piston stroke so tha it only goes back to the point of the port in the cylinder, this will increase rate of fire or you can lower the battery voltage ,maintain normal rate of fire but greatly reduce wear and tear on the gearbox.

if you need any help give me a shout. I can also supply a MOSFET if needed. With regards the nozzle you need to use the existing one as it's a mm or two longer than an ak one. Also Element silent heads are very leaky as standard. Wrap a good few layers around the outside of the threaded silver bit on the rear of the head. This blocks the leak when screwed against the piston. Also to save a bunch of cash and get more. just buy the Element standard full tune kit. You get everything apart from the cylinder and head!

Thanks for the info guys! I'll check out the state of the hop before I buy a new one (they seem to be out of stock most places anyway)

Thanks, I have a couple of mosfets sitting around here I've never got around to using so I'll probably pop one of them in it. I may take a cast of the nozzle in a nylon urethane as getting replacements seems to be an issue. If it works out I'll pop a few in the for sale section.

Aaargh! For some reason the full kit waas in their gear section and not the kit section! Thanks I nearly spent double on seperates! Does the kit have a bearing spring guide and head? The details on ehobby are really sketchy.
Bearing head, Spring guide, nylon piston, 6mm bushings, AR latch gears and shims. Buy from RSOV it's cheaper and Ehobby ALWAYS gets caught for customs.
Here's a money off voucher for RSOV.

There's no point replacing it unless your adding an o ring.
Yeah I have a knack for breaking/mislaying things. lol

Cheers! I checked rsov first but decided on ehobby when I was going to get the hop. All affordable ones on ehob are sold out now so that makes that decision easier! lol When do you enter the code? At the checkout?
at the check out if you use it on the express site you get money off postage too!

so does the whole in the cylinder actually do something

does the barrel length matter as to where the hole is ?
ive used second hand ones from totally different guns in the past
, my g3 blew the front end off the gearbox case
and maybe its why my g41 shoots such a low fps 240 ish
its an mp40 gearbox to an ak hop with a psg1 barrel , can anyone give some advice please?

That could be your problem. The barrel's roughly twice as long as the cylinder is set up for.
I don't know if covering the port with duct tape would work.
