I have an AGM MP40 and the battery it came with doesn't hold the charge very well could somebody please let me know where is a good place to get a replacement and if it would be a good idea to get another charger other than the one that it came with. Many thanks

Component shop are great for batteries. Only about £12 to £14 for a suitable one. They also sell chargers. Be sure to order with an "airsoft" connector though.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Yes, the battery that come with the AGM MP40 is absolute cack. I have an 8.4v 1500mAh mini battery in mine and use the charger that came with the gun. No problems as yet.
These have proved quick to deliver, and reliable for me

Ouch, 26 dollars!
Component shop gets my vote (and many other's too)
Second down on this page @ £11.69, cheaper if you buy three (and you should really be buying two anyway)

The smart charger almost at the bottom of the page will do the business too - plug in and forget! (Well, don't disappear on holiday for two weeks)

Thanx for all that info guys I think I will go for the above mentioned battery and charger once they are back in stock

I've just bought a 9.6v 1400mah MINI battery from Airsoft World ( http://www.AirsoftWorld.net ) for another project, and it fits my AGM MP40 just snuggly with no movement - they're about £17 each, or £15 if you buy 3 or more - big improvement over the original - slightly increases the rate of fire but not dramatically. Might not be the cheapest around but short of a Li-Po battery you'll struggle to beat it performance wise. (Although use of higher power batteries may technically invalidate any warranty, I wouldn't have thought it would cause any problems - I certainly have not found any.)
Also, it may be worth considering a smart charger (auto cutout when fully charged) - again these are available from AW among others and are a good investment as they protect your battery from overcharging (although not the fastest charger out there, its much quicker than the cheapo one supplied with the gun).
Hope this may be of help?

7.4 1800mah lipo,. you will never look back
Can I ask some dumb questions about lipo batteries - will they operate with a tamiya connector and do they need a special charger?
They look like the way to go but do I have to solder Deans conns into all my guns?
And I can still use my current battery charger (trickle feed)?
I now have a vapotech 8.4v 1500mah battery pack(7 cells). I also now have the battery charger recommended above by CW. It has 2 adjustable dials on the front. First one is for number of cells I am charging so I have changed to 7 (hopefully this is right). Second can be either 300 or 600 ms - which one should I choose for this pack please anybody ? Also is it advisable to press the discharge button first before each charge ?

7 is correct. You can choose either of the charge rates, 600 will do the job quicker but I have mine set on 300 as I always plan ahead and work on the principle that the closer I get to trickle charging the longer the life of the battery. Nonsense probably!
I assume you have NiMH in which case you can forget the discharge function (but it may be useful when trying to recover batteries that won't hold their charge any more - you can try a series of discharge/charge cycles to see if it works. If not you were going to have to chuck 'em anyway!) I must admit that once in a while I will run a discharge cycle. Not for any scientific reason but I just feel that as I only ever use a bit of charge off the top of the battery, as it were, that they might benefit from emptying and refilling. But that's just me (don't blind me with science boffins!!)
Which 7 cell batteries fit the AGM MP40
a) 2x3 + 1 (2 rows of three and one across the top)
(8.4V 1500mAh 2/3A NiMH Mini Battery Pack. (3x2 + 1)
b) 7 in a row (1 row of 7 cells)
8.4V 1500mAh 2/3A NiMH Mini Battery Pack. (7 cells side by side)
ps: Is it 8.4V or 9.4V that i should be going for ?
Cheers
It's option a) 2x3 +1, 8.4V is right if you go to 9.6V, which would be 3x3, it would increase your rate of fire but could also increase the chance of the motor/gearbox failing, plus I'm not sure whether you'd fit a 3x3 in a MP40

I think you mean a 2x4 1.2V * 8 = 9.6V.

I'm pretty sure you'd fit one of those in there, there's quite a bit of room.
But the proper type to put in is the 2x3 + 1, 1.2V * 7 = 8.4V.

Oh... don't discharge NiMH's they can end up melted if you do.
i run my one on a mini 9.6 fits fine, just remember to have the wires on top of the battery,
the battery is the same that comes with the A&K M249,
good rate of fire and i,v had no probs with it,
warren
team shoot and scoot, TL
at autum mist , all my battrys died the night before
4 mini batts all fooked from storage and little use
i drilled a small hole in the back of the mp40, taped a 3300 ma battry to the sling and ran a wire through
good to go!
remindsme, i must recharge my right arm, before i use my dboys at lightning
