Because of the way they have built the trigger system on the AGM Sten there is no way to make it semi auto only, can someone tell me if the Viva sten has a selector and if anyone thinks it can be made semi auto only, i live in new zealand and full auto is illegal here so we need to convert everything to semi auto only before its shipped here.

This company sells a widget that allows you convert to semi auto and burst fire. It also lets you adjust the full auto RoF. Works with Li-Po.

They sell a "locked" version specifically for NZ and AUS which only has the semi-auto modes - although whether the authorities will let you import a gun without it already attached is another matter.
Apparently it's about the size of a AA battery.

From what I've seen you need a mechanical semi auto to be able to set them up!

The locked version may work... but the timing is going to be an issue.

In fact it probably won't work even then because you will probably need a mechanical semi auto again.

But I'm not going to rule it out 100%.

I love that the trigger mech, is just a sprung pivot pressing on a push-to-make switch! Ingenious!

I've tried using a 555 timer myself in my Garand to do an electronic semi auto and I hit all sorts of problems... as you know the cycle time of the AEG changes depending on the charge in the battery... etc!

It could be done by detecting the motor current load.

When the motor's pulling back the piston, the current draw would be measurably higher than after it releases. That drop could be detected by the electronics, and the motor cut off.

Microcontroller sequence would be:
Wait for trigger to be pulled
Turn on motor
Measure current until it drops significantly
Turn off motor
Wait for trigger to be released
Go back to wait for trigger to be pulled

Yes that would work... now go ahead and make one... cos I can't be arsed. ;)

No good for Chaos - "Featuring FULLY Automatic Shooting Mode" makes it illegal in NZ.

I know they say "We would even make proper tune-up or adjustment, if necessary, free of charge." but modding full auto to semi is not a simple job.

And it seems it is the NiMH 'stick in the stock' (or 'bat in the but' ?) version not the Lipo one.

Thank f&&& for that - I've bags of stick batteries and don't want to add fiddly LiPos to my kit bag. Add on the cost of a decent one pls charger and it's suddenly gun + £50! Well done, AGM.

Featuring FULLY Automatic Shooting Mode USD 124.00
Full Metal airsoft replica of WWII British Submachine Gun
Magazine accommodate 50 Rounds of 6mm plastic BB
This AEG can shoot out 310FPS muzzle power nicely out from the package!!
Included 7.4V Li-Po Rechargeable Battery which can stock into gun body
Package with Fast Charger ((12V input / 100-240V US type Standard Plug)

Strange AGM would make 2 versions :?

That green battery and charger are fit only for the bin. Replaced mine immediately, and went from intermittent fire and lockups to sweet full auto every trigger pull. The charger ain't a balance one, so will kill the battery before long.

Oh, and the second stick version was a request from AW apparently.

When I got my M1A1 I didn't even think of charging the supplied battery.

Nice to see they've still not learnt to weld.

Err is this just me bein daft or doesn't the pic of the boxed Sten show a Stick Battery and std cheapo ACM charger? Just like the one that Action Hobbies are selling - the AGM v2 with a different stock to take a stick? I think they've dropped the LiPo version (and are not making two types)?

Having spoken to Frenchie at length at Detling on Saturday my understanding (and my assumption prior to that) is that the "Version 2" Sten with stick battery and HOP is now the standard. AW are against the fitting of the adjustable HOP however that I was told being a request from Paul at Action Hobbies. AW's view was that it is something else to go wrong, I don't quite get that as just about every other AEG out there has an adjustable HOP and they're not viewed in that light. I'd much rather have an adjustable HOP in place, I'm not keen on the idea of having to buy separate heavier (more expensive) ammo just to feed the Sten.

 Yes I thought the same the welding on that stock is no where near as strong as a real one would be.

So what is steel and what isn't on this AGM sten as I could do my blueing on the steel easy :?:
