Sorry, I've not been able to find the answer via the search function.

German Bergmanns/MP28 sub machine guns or Lanchester SMGs (a close copy)

So you know what I'm on about:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanchester_submachine_gun

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP18

If I had to pick one weapon that would to do me for all the intended looks I'm planning/involved with, that would be the one!

Were there ever any airsoft versions (or will there be?). Or are these something that would be a custom job?

Anyone with conversion skills want to suggest an AEG suitable as a doner for mechanism?

I'm thinking its likely to be a Sten but that is a bit pricey for a beginner like myself to go and potentially mess up!

Sadly, there are no MP28's produced as a stock item. Old 'Un on here bodged one together (that's currently sitting here waiting for me to build a decent hop-up unit for it) and I have blueprints (that weren't cheap :( ) to build a perfect replica of an MP28 when I get the time.

As to the guts of it, i'm planning on using a substantially modified M14 gearbox to do the job, coupled to a custom Hop-up unit.

**edit**

It's a project i've been planning to do for 18 months now. Hell, its taken me till only very recently to get hold of the pukka MP28 mag pouches to go with it lol

What are your intended loadouts? The MP28/Lanchester best suited to Freikorps or Royal Navy I would have thought?

I've heard tell of a few Huns who kept them as personal weapons? Would be a nice change from all the MP40s!

On the conversion front, would it not be possible to lift the gubbins from an AGM Sten into a real steel stock then custom build the exterior?

MP28 was used by Waffen-SS and quite a few "police" units (make of that what you will). MP28 Stock prices are horrific (not to mention that the stocks are rare as rocking horse shit :( ) The MP28 was liked by its users as it was utterly reliable, and the side mounted magazine meant you could get a hell of a lot closer to the ground than you could with an MP38 or MP40

Although he's not currently got one up for sale, this guy does do MP28 stocks, I think he was charging the same as for the MP41 stock I bought off him, which was $60 + $20 P&P and it's a very nice piece of kit.

It might be worth getting in touch with him to see if he'll sell you one.

At the moment, the key focus is on resistance/FFI, then a more professional 44/45 French forces (to match in with Kroot, a local and an old mate).

As to their use?

Freikorp and sparticist would work. So would German Police.

I think the Royal Navy unloaded their lanchesters in the 60's to a few small countries (Mollo/Mcgreagor put one in the hands of a dutch solider in Indonesia after WW2 in one of their illustrated uniform works, I trust those authors to be accurate).

It also saw service in inter war conflicts (eg the chaco war) and was widely copied.

Two particular examples I have read about re the copies.

Cheap, rough knock offs were made in Spain during the civil war by both sides so that would be suitable and period for any premature anti-fascist (if not hugely common). Especially any that nipped over the Pyrenees to continue the fight (which enough did to make it a viable look to go to). Yes most were disarmed, but what happened after the fall of France to those weapon stocks? Records are fuzzy enough that its a possibility.

China made knock-offs as well (along with the broom handled Mauser machine pistols) and was rather a prestige weapon in the KMT era (warlord bodyguards etc, yes warlords still existed in that era).

Many wound up getting getting into the hands of small countries and their revolutionaries post war (along with genuine MP28s and Lanchesters that were not scrapped).

As a post war commie rebel look in the works with people local to me, it seems suitable.

On the personal level.

And it just looks 'right' (its an aesthetic thing) and is a bit different.

It has a long time scale of usability due to the choice of ammo (30's to 70's as most were well made enough to last that long),

and it has that 'spirit' I am looking for. And if in doubt, try and capture the spirit ;)

(Oh and I can't shoot for toffee so it has to be an SMG, a bit :ghey: I know, but true)

Would probably be a pig to cut a battery hole in that. Though he says he's the maker - maybe he'd do it for you for a fee.
