Hey all,

Shelved an idea of an airsoft Bren a short while ago after considering a Vickers.

Main gun is easy as pie to do and know roughly what internals it will have...

Biggest question is:
a) anyone know where to get a banged up Vickers Tripod?
b) Anyone got the dimensons for a Vickers Tripod?
c) anyone know where to get a Vickers tripod?

Luckily I live with a mechanical and electrical engineering students so this shouldn't be that hard to put together ;)

Vickers tripods are a bugger to get... The only way Major got one was to buy a deac Vickers...

Could you use a MG42-type tripod -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG42-MG-3-AA-Trip ... 240%3A1318

Obviously not the same but seems a decent price and would look the part ............... ??

Its tempting but I'd also like to use the Vickers for reenactment work as well (whatever I buy has to ideally be a dual role piece of kit), and the MG42 tripod is too far off for what I need :(

How much can you afford to pay? Major was on about selling his Vickers (airsoft and deac) at some point... I think I have his contact details... but you may be better off contacting someone who's talked to him recently

I'm a student mate ;)

Honestly not much - also my new reenactment group hasnt yet built up any (even marginal funds) for purchases... hence the likely hood of building one (if plans exist out there).]

Also this would be a little project to keep the engineers in this house in line and to stop them tinkering with a) the internet b) lighting and c) the electrics

Ahh, so you'll need to google for 'Plans to Build Vickers Tripod From Discarded Pizza Boxes, Tesco Noddle Packets and Blue Line Beer Cans' then !! :D

There seems to be useful parts on here -
http://thegunner.net/khxc/index1.php?ap ... ref=splash
- although a complete tripod may be over-budget !

Alternately, does it have to be a Vickers ?
If you could fab' up a Lewis Gun, for instance, it would still be suitable for WW1/WW2 and you'd only need to buy/build a bi-pod - much easier AND cheaper !

We did a few weeks ago build a cardboard 1:1 scale 'working' AK (with flip up 'Bang!' ... was rather cool!)

Not keen on Lewis Guns for several reasons:
1. Don't think they're applicable for 53rd Div Royal Welch Fusiliers 1944-45.
2. I think the internals/hop/loading system would be a right pain to get inside.
3. Never been a Lewis fanboi :P

Vickers offers following advantages:
1. Never seen an airsoft Vickers (although there MAY be a reason for that...)
2. The whole set up in battle of a Vickers drama ;)
3. Dual usage (as mentioned before)

Anyone ever measured a Vickers tripod :p?

There are at least 2 airsoft vickers in existence...

I have a Vickers and tripod.

If you get further than the planning stage I'd be happy to send photos/dimms.

They are no longer available - I collected them from 'The Major' some time ago.

The Airsoft Vickers will be in the hands of it's new owner in December and the De-Activated Vickers and tri-pod is currently back with the original owners.

I believe it's possibly for sale, I could find out, if any re-enactment group was interested.

And I have no money for a deact :(

Ah well brainstorming has continued a wee bit and if I'm right on the size I should be able to make it 'the most realistic airsoft gun ever' one one special way...

Making it even more 'dual usage' :good:

Going to Malvern tomorrow will have a look and a muse ;)

If you're interested I've got a Vickers feed block body, bought it from here http://www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php ... bde2863892 I'd only want what I paid for it plus postage, it was bought for my own Vickers project but I won't be needing it after December

How much for it then Pete? I'm interested, as the original fabricated feedblock I made out of sheet brass for my Vickers isn't quite the right dimentions me thinks, would be good to have one to copy.
