I'd be very surprised if an 8.4v or 9.6v Sub-C sized pack will fit in the stock. You may be better off looking at LiPo packs (FAR smaller)

You are indeed correct sir, just got the measurements off the net. A large 8.4v won`t fit but a mini will, shouldn`t matter too much as it`ll only be short bursts instead of sustained fire.
I`d rather avoid LiPo if poss and stick to something easily available 8)

I stand corrected, just put a drill through the stock and chiselled out a space only to find I`m 10mm short for a mini battery....unfortunately I put a split in the stock whilst doing so....

Oh no!!! what a bugger!

I had my BAR leant up against my wardrobe whilst the resin was drying when it decided to slip on the wooden floor! About a weeks worth of work was scuppered!!! hehe

Keep going though dude, put some screws in after you've chisled out the middle and it'll be fine :)

Damn, shame about the BAR :(
I`ve decided against more chiselling as where the stock rounds out it`ll make it weak so I`ve filled the hole, luckily the split was clean so I`ve glued it back together. I`ve drilled a small channel in the left hand side for wiring and opted for a black pouch to hold the battery....hopefully it`ll be unobtrusive enough, just gotta paint the stock and it`ll be done. :)

If your ACM c-mag is anything like the mos-mags, there's plenty of free space inside - could you not mod the mag to hold a large custom battery ?

What tubing did you use for the front end, btw ?

Thats a thought, never thought about the space in the mag...the tubing is aluminium from a broken Dyson vacuum cleaner

Certainly looks the dog's .....

I've been basing my MG42-ish on either an MP5 or G3 (still can't get either to look 'right' - problems with the handguard  ) but looking at yours, I may just rethink totally :pompom:

Cheers peeps :D I`ll put a few rounds through it using a normal AK mag at the weekend, its only got a cheapo UTG box in it so fps is about 280, might have to grab another box if it feels right. I just spotted a drum mag at Helston Gunsmiths and wouldn`t mind trying to mount it on the side of a short AK mag in some way :)

Saw those drum mags, whilst I was searching for 'useful' bits ....

Couldn't see a simple way of making it look 'right', without it looking like a 'Blue Peter' job; also I dislike irreversably altering 'relics'.

Possible game plan was cutting the mos-mag down thus .......

... with a bit of ribbing stuck to the outside, sprayed up and maybe a short length of link on the top, to give the impression of a 'single' drum mag; depends if/how much space required for a battery, if you were going to mount it in the mag ?

Also, it's worth bearing in mind how heavy the metal drum mags are, as the AEG mag catch will have to take the weight - might cause feed issues ???

Tbh, the AK ACM mags that you've found don't look too far removed from the MG08/15 twin-mags anyway - personally I'd be inclined to just spray them up and leave them as they are

99% of the drums you'll see for sale today aint original - they are normally coated with an 'orrible thick layer of paint as shown in slick63's pic. Originals, where the waffenampt stamps are visible, and painted in much darker paint are worth a damn sight more - and are worth keeping as-is.

In short, post-war painted ones dont really class as relics in my book, as someone has spoiled them already lol
