Thanks for the comments guys.

In answer to a couple of questions, The link for the blueprint plans is in Riflemans original post on making his MG34. Well worth reading through, got some excellent advice in it.

Jim, you asked about details on making the receiver. Made out of 3mm aluminium box tube. The plans include both side elevations, I laid the barrel with the hop up fitted and the gearbox on top of the plan and took measurements of where to cut. The side that takes the mag I left a length of full depth ali so I had a strong area to attach the mag bracket (2mm mild steel plate). The opposite side of the receiver was cut away to allow the cartridge belt to be fitted. 2 panels of 2mm ali plate with the bottoms angled to make up the correct depth of the receiver were glued and pop rivetted to the lower body. These were set 3mm below the cuts on the main body to allow a neat and solid base so when the upper receiver was closed it wouldn't wobble. It also had a good bit cut out the the bottom to allow the gearbox and pistol grip to be fitted. The top of the pistol grip section was built up with ali plate until the gearbox dropped down enough to mate up with the hop.

Difficult to explain, I've put up a couple more building stage pics. Hope that helps.-- attachment is not available --

This might sound like a newbie question but how did you make sure that the butt tube and the barrel tube were aligned at the opposite ends of the receiver? When i made my PVC '34, i had to make the receiver out of 2 inch tubing so that the opposite ends were aligned. I was scared of it ending up crooked if i used box for the receiver. Is the butt tube 1.5inch tubing also, same as the barrel? Oh and how do you bend aluminium plate without cracking it?

Final post on the MG34. Used it in action at The Gothic Line game last weekend and very pleased to report it worked faultlessly all day, although the bottom tip of the trigger snapped off. (just ordered a steel AK series trigger from Zero In)

Cheers to Boshman for very tactfully pointing out my basic schoolboy error that the spent cartridges were ejected out through a port in front of the trigger guard. I also had the starter belt round the wrong way, so I've fixed that. Seriously cheers, there I was trying to make the gun as realistic looking as possible and get something as basic as that wrong.

Oh well, I'm mulling over the idea of making an MG42 now. Perhaps a bit more research next time.
