The picture isn't very clear, however a guy on one of the american boards has done a custom thompson with a perforated outer barrel, (and a sliding stock very much like the one on a M3), which is,

styled after a very rare variant made by PTO special operations for clandestine meetings

thanks for the feedback mate.

in the film its a regular thompson, with a long barrel with a holed jacket, and carrying handle over the breech area

it seemed like an early type of support weapon,
or maybe it was just hollywood bollocks

I should think thats a made up gun for the series, can`t see the point of a pistol calibre support weapon :)

Definitely something I've NEVER seen before. :?

As for pistol caliber support weapons. The Italians made one in WW1: Villar Perosa in 9mm Glisenti. but you're right, not much of a point to it....until they cut it in half and gave it a stock.

it fired blanks in the film, and the flash came out of the barrel muzzle,

so it was a longer barrel capable of fireing a blank.

but ive got loads of weapons books , and apart from the film, Ive NEVER seen it.

i grab a better screen capture, (when i can find the film)

I think auto ordanence still make thopmsons for sale in the US. They had to extend the barrel to somthing like 16 inches so that it would be classed as a rifle and so could be bought by anyone with a firearms licence in the states. The film prop looks like one of these with a jacket made for the barrel.
