really depends on what you are intending to use it for,if you want to do regular airsoft in a sniper role dressed in ww2 gear or ww2 airsoft in witch case dont go for 500fps upgrades as the movement is toward max 350fps bolt action rifles without a minimum engagement distance.if you want the former then get a bar10 as its upto the load on the trigger out of the box ,if its the latter then the TM vsr as its higher quality in other areas and will cope with a minor upgrade to 350 fps.

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
The HFC VSR11 is good, I bought one a while back and it`s accurate and reliable. It chronos at about 350, but is upgradeable as it`s TM compatible.
The problem with switching the spring is that all these have some pain involved with getting the piston head off.
Some of the clones have crimped piston heads which makes your life a nightmare.
A proper TM VSR-10 has a threaded piston head, but with a steel pin in it which needs drilling out. You'll want a pillar drill and a nice sharp drill bit and not a small amount of skill to get that out without destroying the cylinder. However once you've done it then you're completely sorted. If buying a new VSR then I would suggest asking the retailer to drill the pin out. I know that Airsoft World certainly offered that service a few years back.
Personally having seen the pain some people have had with the clones, I'd actually recommend getting a straight forward TM VSR-10 Pro Sniper. (with pin drilled out). That's what's in my custom SMLE and it's great!
I would be happy to use a JG BAR10, a TM VSR10, or an HFC VSR11 but I wouldnt bother with any of the other cheaper options or hybrid clone springers as with all the effort you need to put into a custom, you will want it to actually work well and keep working!
The JG Bar10 has no such pin to be drilled out, the piston head simply unscrews and it is 100% TM VSR compatible and comes around 420fps out of the box which can be increased to over 450fps with just a few tweeks. It will handle 500fps for a while on stock parts but you will need to replace the trigger sears with steel replacements before long.
I've built 3 custom K98's now, all based on Bar10's and found them to be a very good choice.

So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Boshman, how is the APS2 based k98 you built doing? I ask because you're right about it being a much more straight forward build rather than using a Bar10/VSR10. I used a Snow wolf M24 for my build. It comes with steel sears stock and is an APS2 clone (excepting the hop up).

I sold it on a long while ago now, it has changed hands a few time since I beleive so i'm really not sure who was it now! Shame really as it was a lovely looking piece with a fantastic original late war laminated stock and nice waffenampt hardware!
Actually now you mention it those Snowwolf M24 dont look bad and the VSR style hop is a lot better than the APS2 style one.
