While it would have been nice to have marked my 100th post on here with one of great knowledge, perspicacity or wit it unfortunately falls to this one.
Now this is undoubtedly going to sound like a really stupid question to everyone on here, but I'm clearly not afraid to appear stupid as anyone who knows me will, and often do, testify. In fact I manage to do it rather well.
Not really having much interest in the intricacies of airsoft the mechanics of these guns are a bit of a mystery to me; a bit like cars some of them look nice so you buy them, put the necessary fuel stuff in, switch them on and hope they work, some times they do and quite often they don't.
So I have just received my brand spanking new 8.4v large battery which I ordered as per the manual for the new KA Thompson I have and what has arrived is exactly the same size as the 8.4v battery which came with my MP40. Now I understood that the MP0 took small/mini.
The question therefore is:
"Is a large battery actually bigger than a small battery?"
Or am I missing some other ethereal quality that determines its scale?
Thank you for your patience

Heh, imprecise I know, but everyone calls the size of battery that goes in an MP40 as a 'mini' and that one that goes in a TM Thompson as a 'large'. They not only are different in size but also have different size Tamiya connectors. I recall that my CYMA Thompson came with a mini battery and has the small connector too - even if you could get a large battery in the stock you would have to swap the gun's or battery's connectors to compatible sizes.
So, if your mini battery fits then that's fine. The rest is a question of capacity - all things being equal a large battery pack will last longer than a mini. Somewhat academic for normal WW2 games as a mini should be all you need (and more). But a spare is a good idea regardless!

Thanks C-W - this is sort of what I thought.
Ordinarily I probably would just keep it as a spare but as the connector is the wrong size and the small one would clearly rattle around inside the stock I think I will have to get back to them. Nothing's ever straight forward is it.

I use minis in my Cyma Thompson, though usually a 9.6V NiMh or equivalent-size 7.4V LiPo.
WRT rattling about: I wrap the battery in an empty BB plastic bag. That pads the space a bit, and stops it rattling.
