she went for her first outing yesterday ,a half day at my local site and she performed verry well but it did highlight a few shortcomeings .
1 only one mag
2 mag winding key wore out verry fast as its plastick
3 need a sling (probably most urgent)
4 the hop is verry hard to get at
5 need a decent stock (ive baught 2 ,one is cracked but looks nice ,the other has been used for repair practice and is falklands era but is sound)
well ive now made a second mag, made a metal winding key and ordered a sling.that just leaves finding a way to make hop adjustment easier and finding a sound stock at a reasonable price.
having said all that i was varry pleased how well she fires ,not suprising when you consider the barrel is the longest one i coud find (meant for a psg1 sniper rifle)its varry accurate with a close grouping (just like the real thing) rate of fire is good and shoots at a respectable 330 fps (may tinker a bit to get nearer 350).
so some minor finishing ,the hop and a stock if possible and she's done .
will post more picks when finished.
ps if anybody has or can find a decent stock please let me know ,thanks in advance

Great work - it certainly looked awesome even before it was complete. 8)

Absolutely stunning piece of work, looking forward to you shooting it at me at Ford Next year, (may be able to squeeze your son in too!) Did you get the carry handle to fully lock in place? If ever you feel the urge to build an mg42, I'll book an order in advance

no the carry handle still doesent lock in place but its on the list and will be lookewd at.on that subject and a little out of period but if you'v seen the film aliens ,when you swing her around on the carry handle and pistol grip it feels a bit like one of the big guns the marines carry and you wish you had the support frame they had to carry them , its also loads of fun laying down suppresing fire from the hip.

That "support frame" in Aliens was a Steadicam vest and arm.

..with an MG42 attached to the end of it!
