Happened across this on the AW site, looks to be an lpeg with low fps but I`ve used my Sten conversion with an lpeg box at a cqb game and its was pretty good. And its £45 with a drum and stick mag. :good:

Thompson's a bit long for CQB isn't it?

No. I just bought a CYMA/Cybergun M1A1 and was surprised how long (and heavy) it is.
Bear in mind I'm used to a telescoping stock MP5.

ISTR reading somewhere that the first Thompsons didn't have a butt stock at all. Not sure if that was just the prototypes, though.
Up until the M1, the butt was easily removable without tools, presumably for use in trench clearing - the original purpose of the SMG.

Ah I can see where you`re coming from now. Comparing the Tommy and the mp5 is like comparing a model t with a mondeo. They are both products of their time, the Tommy was short compared to a Springfield or a Lee enfield, and made of wood and iron. The mp5 in comparison has the benefit of another fifty years of smg and materials design technology. 8)

This came today, quick delivery and when I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised (excuse two tone but I don`t get out as much these days).
The thing looks and strips like a TM/Cyma although its made almost entirely of plastic. The gearbox isn`t the normal tiddly lpeg type, it looks like a plastic replica of the normal thompson V6 so its probably possible to upgrade slightly (not a lot though as the gears are plastic). The hop looks like a normal thompson version. The battery supplied is an 8.4v 450mah, to fit anything bigger such as a mini or large type in the stock would necessitate removing a web of plastic inside the stock which I`ll attempt at some point with a hot knife.
The stick mag is a metal locap and looks at first glance to be TM/Cyma compatible, the drum is a plastic hicap filled by opening a flap and then winding the clockwork handle on the front.
I haven`t fired the thing yet as the battery is low and its piddling down outside, once I get the thing charged I`ll do the coke can test to see how it shoots. :good:

All I wanna know is the capacity of the drum, how it performs, and could it be whacked on a TM?

If they are TM-compatible, and the hop unit, too, I forsee many sales for stripping for spares.

I`ve clambered up into the loft to retrieve my BB stash and a mini battery. Looking at the gun again, a mini battery does fit in the stock without modification. The locap mag is plastic (odd because it felt and sounded like metal), and I`d put money on the mags being compatible. Unfortunately I`ve got nothing to compare it to, might be worth looking at the pic I posted of the hop and compare it with the TM/Cyma hop setup. At a guess after filling up the drum I`d say around 800-1000 round capacity.

The first time I have ever seen a WW2 gun in two-tone. Came as a bit of a shock!
FPS should be about 118 with .2g BBs

I'm pretty sure about the mags too, but want to be 100% before commiting. I was actually stood about 4 feet from the gun when the (above) pic was taken, and was toying with the idea of buying the twat tone one for my nephew, and keeping the drum mag for myself. Unfortunately I didn't have a TM or even CYMA to check it with, as I was up at the shop for some Sten and STG44 issues.

As for WW2 in twat tone, I've seen a Kar98 with all the wood parts in lime green and almost puked.

Don't worry, it was probably a Dboys one, not worth worrying about...

The photos look a lot like the construction of my Cyma M1A1, including the hop, and the 2 pieces screwed on either side at the front of the receiver.
Who makes it? If it's Cyma, it's very likely the hop parts at least will be from the same moulds. Maybe the plastic parts are too. I'd not be surprised if it was just cast in plastic, rather than metal.

It was, but it was still traumatic. Even more traumatic however is you just made me imagine how bad it'd be if it had been a Tanaka!!!

Okey dokey, I`ve done a quick charge on the battery and wound the drum mag. Mag works faultlessly although you need to keep winding it just like a normal hicap, I probably got off about 200 rounds on a wind. ROF is slow compared to my mates TM which sounded like a little buzz saw if I remember correctly, probably down to a poor quality motor (you get what you pay for  ). Straight trajectory is maybe 20 yards then it drops off even with hop fully on, may have to look at the hop as it doesn`t make a great deal of difference. Yep the two tone green is awful.

My stock Cyma's ROF is about 600rpm on 8.4V, which is realistic for an M1A1. Your friend's is probably modded (even a lighter main spring would help - 370fps is a bit too hot anyway) and/or 9.6V battery.

The hop might not work properly if the muzzle velocity is too low.

I stripped the box down today, spring seems adequate but the air seal was terrible. With my finger over the nozzle I could hear air passing the o ring as I pushed the piston in. I cleaned the grease off, popped the o ring and wrapped some thread tape in the groove. Replaced the o ring, light smear of silicone grease and now it won`t push down with my finger on the nozzle. Put it all back together and tried it out, added about another 5m with the hop off before it drops. I`ll charge the battery and try again tommorrow, hopefully I`ve got a bit more fps now and will be able to get an effective hop. 8)

Nope it didn`t work, as soon as I add hop it slows the BB and reduces range. Back to the drawing board.

I'd be interested to know if the upper/barrel assembly fits on a TM/Cyma.

I`d be inclined to think it will, it dissassembles in the same way. The outer barrel is plastic, the hop for a cheapsoft looks pretty good.
