Heres a link to a load of M1 goodness. I had a nightmare trying to figure out how to fit mine to my no.4 T but the guides on this site are pretty good.
Think Fibble already posted a how to on attaching the sling on a thread somewhere, I used it to do mine.. Are you sure its the Garand sling and not the BAR sling, most places sell them as the same thing, however the BAR has 3 loops, whereas the garand should only have 2.
Not being stitch countery before certain people pipe up <coughs>gadge</coughs> 
but it obviously effects which howto to use

That's the one I used. The 'M1' sling you get from SoF is pish, so be careful what you buy - it's stiff, poor quality leather and has three claws. The one I have, which is correct and is made of nice leather, is actually made by G&G and sold on Zero1. It was a shot in the dark, but it's perfect.
