Classic Army M1 conversion

I think you will be very pushed to only spend £50, depends on what route you want to go down. You can buy real wood and stock handguards and start removing wood till it fits. Mine cost me £40 from D&B Militaria and I brought another one in a better condition at War & Peace for £60. You then have to find some sort of kit for the front gas block end as its very different from the the M14 or you can buy one of Warren's kits from shoot and scoot http://www.shootnscoot.co.uk/m1-garand-kit but that will send you back £155.

My plan is to extend the gas tube on the M14 with some steel piping which I can get easily. Then cut down the stock and carve my own front and upper handguard. Then I'll just use some of the leftover metal rings and stuff to make the barrel bands. That should be fairly low cost. I don't really mind about the stock being plastic so I'll just stain it nicely and add modify my M14 mags (cut them down)

Thanks! The shipping will be cheap too (I live close to the shipping depot). My dad who works as an aircraft engineer could probably get hold of most of the tools. I have already stripped the rifle down so I'm gonna go for it in a couple of weeks I hope the shotty mags feed in classic army, Otherwise, I'll just have to make my own. could these be used in the K98/vsr conversion?

possibly but why would you not want to use the VSR mags?

It should fit CA although the mags might need slightly more modification to feed. There is a topic below from another website which goes into a little bit about the mags etc.

Those mags won't fit the CA m14 magwell at all. Nor the G&G mag well. The gearbox of these guns protrude into the magwell, unlike the TM/Cyma/AGM M14 which is relatively flat. So there won't be any space at all for these mags in the CA. Your only choice would be to use the CA M14 mags during skirmishes and just remove it during photo ops.
