Sounds like Porta had great fun with his Dboyi, I think he got the same level of satisfaction and gratification from getting kills with it that we all do when we manage to get a good pistol kill :good: .

I think his comments do highlight the biggest issues with the rifle is not with the fact it is a shell ejector, but with it's lack of power and accuracy. With sub 300fps on tap and poor accuracy and consitency at over 20m you effectivly have a very low capacity, very low ROF, not very compact SMG! You have all the usuall disadvantages of a bolt-action and non of the expected benefits of extended range and accuracy over AEG's.

If the FPS could be reliably upped to the +400fps mark and the accuracy improved then it would indeed be a formidable weapon on the skirmish field.

So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

I was saying the same to CW, Anne and Barry. That pin serves no purpose what so ever. Still reckon the best thing to do is change it for Bar 10 internals.

I think I'll be going along Vsr / bar 10 route. As for the stock I've got an "Oil Finish Kit" from a company called Trade Secret Stock Care. We sell them at the rifle range where I work on a Wednesday evening. It's a 3 bottle kit with a set of instructions on how to build up a good finish with the woodwork. Apparently you start with bare wood, then wet it and leave to dry and raise the grain, then there is a process of applying the different oils to fill the grain, stain the colour and finally build up an oil protective finish coat. If I get a chance this weekend I'll strip the gun apart and get some Nitromorse on the nasty brown sh#t they cover the stock with. As soon as I start the process I'll take photos and see how it turns out.

Well my wood stock version arrived today and I love it!
Okay, it has the disadvantage of being a shell ejector, poor accuracy and limited range but it is, imo, a thing of beauty
I took that pin out of the bolt and I got an increase in range instantly, accuracy out of the box wasn't bad either. I plan to fit a new inner barrel, possibly a spring then try it at the next CIA 'bash' I attend. There is also a thread on the US board about adapting real steel 8x57 round into airsoft rounds for the DBoy, I plan to give that a go too.

The way I look at it is that if I get fed up with the shell ejecting I have all the mauser bits ready for a 'bar10 drop in'.
Having said that, I watched Porta engage the enemy successfully at Husky with his and it looked brilliant fun, gotta try it :good:

Oh, anybody tell me how to remove the stock disc, I plan to re stain and age the stock. Is it threaded or do you just pry it off?

Thanks

Impatience, the curse of airsofters! Well the story so far, I applied Nitromorse to the stock and stripped off the brown and nasty, leaving me with a very blonde stock. I did the oil and wet and dry 400 grade a couple of times as per the instructions in the kit. Then I went onto colouring and the oil kit failed. Admittedly it's for a walnut stock but a couple of coats proved this stock wasn't dark enough. I went to B&Q and brought a tin of Coloron wood dye, Indian Rosewood. As I've mentioned elsewhere I have a 1942 MP34 de-ac so had that for a colour reference and after a couple of coats of that the stock is dark enough and the grain showing nicely. This evening I applied the first of the finishing oil coats. The finish oil is a mix of beeswax and other nastiness they dont disclose. I applied the first coat, let it dry for an hour then wiped off the surplus, then the secret bit, I "Palmed " it for an hour. This process consists of rubbing the gun vigorously with the palm of the hand, the friction heats up the area you're working on and gets the oil into the wood whilst giving a shine. basically polish till it hurts then move on to the next bit. It really does work the oil into the wood. The stock is now resting untill tomorrow when I apply the next coat.
Whilst I was "Palming my stock" I was thinking about the conversion which I dont relish as I'm mechanically inept. I can hang £100 per roll heritage wallpaper easy peasy, yet I could change a spark plug and cross thread it and kill an engine!
I have in my airsoft armoury a Tanaka Works Remington M700p currently mounted in a genuine Remington M700 wooden stock, which side by side to the Kar 98 is not a million miles away. Tomorrow I'll have a look and see if I can squeeze the M700 into the K98.
Should be interesting.
Sorry no pics as yet but will post em up asap.
