would advise deciding on what kind of role interests you, oh and which side you want to play on.

Axis:-

Would suggest MP40 as the main SMG
Rifle - Tanaka 98K (Gas), or custom TM VSR (Spring)/VSR clone made into 98k. There is a cartridge based 98k, but you risk loosing cartridges

Allied:-

M1A1 thompson - either TM or Chinese versions (AEG)
M14 or M14 to M1 garand conversion- AEG but only semi-auto allowed ;)

There are others weapons out the - but i guess it depends on which route you want to take and ££££

If you have the £££ you can get a No.4 or Sten etc

I'm hoping to play for the Allies, and I would probably be interested in an assault role of some kind, but I guess I won't be entirely sure until I play a few games.

M1A1 thompson - either TM or Chinese versions (AEG)

What do you mean when you say TM or Chinese versions JD7?

Thanks for your help, Greg

TM = Tokyo Marui - The Major Airsoft manufacturer

Chinese Versions = cheaper copies of TM weapons (clones)

hope this helps?

Oh yeah, i've heard of TM before, are these chinese versions any good?

I've been looking round all the airsoft sites I can find and the guns all seem pretty expensive, i found these guys (http://www.rsov.com/index.php?cPath=105_142_151) but i'm not sure if they will be any good, considering the price tag. What sites would you guys reccomend, bearing in mind I am a student, and I do have a lot of "books" to buy

Lots of players here have bought from RSOV - I've bought quite a few bits and pieces from RSOV and had no problem.

If you do by from RSOV be aware of shipping costs and once here, custom and excise(or whatever they call themselves, these days lol)charges

you'll also need to provide proof that you can have the purchase imported into the UK - UKARA/VCRB/FPS declaration etc, since the laws have changed.

That's brilliant, I think i'll probably get my first gun/s off there then! :D

To get these UKARA/VCRB things, I need to have played 3 times within a 2 month period right? And I can get them just by playing at a local airsoft centre?

In the case of the M1A1, I think that the clone is far better than the original TM. :D

As JD7 previously mentioned, they do take a lot of patience to use well in a skirmish due to their use of individual shells to load each shot, which pushed the realism levels up, but seeing as you only get 5 shells with it (though you can buy more), it's very unrealistic to keep having to hunt round and pick up the ejected shells after every fire-fight you're in to save having to fork-out for new ones. Most people buy these 98K rifles to fit spring rifle (VSR/or VSR clone usually) internals into to make them a more 'useable' weapon on the battlefield.

I think i'll probably just go with the M14 for now, and if I ever want to do a German loadout I might opt for the 98k then

Thanks for your help everyone, Greg

A Tommy gun would be better for brits really... as the M14 is used as a Garand look-a-like and it was rare the Brits used those...

Mind you the M1A1 is also wrong...

You can't win really... heh.
