Well, good question. Neillblume has one and loves it. One factor is that after the initial batch of MP40s came out, they greatly improved in range and accuracy. My "2nd batch" MP40 is exactly the same as my Fire Support one - maybe I've got a really good one, I don't know. And my FS one is back with them because it has a problem. My original has been skirmished countless times and never let me down. So from my personal experience, it is not worth it.

i love mine, yes the upgrde was a teeny bit expensive, but it now shoots very straight and very reliably, at haggard i got a kill with my very first shot. Both mp40s i had were not great the first one had shot off to the left and the other one wasbetter but not much. this upgrade transformed it for me.....

i bought mine second hand from diggah, not done anything to it, it fires a little to the left but i aim off and its not a problem, it is powerfull and reliable. as far as i know all it has ever had is a squirt of silcone down the barrel every few games. i love it. i can get it to shoot straight but it only takes a few mags for the rudimentary hop to move so i dont bother . what do you want for 90 quid posted with 3 mags and a ppsh sling thrown in?

Roy,
The Japanese have made a vast industry out of upgrade parts for airsoft guns. The vast majority of these upgrades are not worth the expense. Due to a sense of vanity or whatever most owners who have spent a fortune on upgrades will tell you ` it was worth it`, because they do not want to own up to the fact that ,in truth, they see little improvement.

My advice is ti buy the standard gun and use it a few times before spending too much. After all you could buy TWO guns for the price of the FS upgraded one.

I f you need in depth information od upgrades and guns in general pm. me.

i also have FS mp40 and its amazing. mine as standard preformed really badly but after FS Upgrade it had good range and hasn't skipped a beat. So FS upgrade gets a big thumbs up from me.

With a bit of modification, the standard hop can be made much better. I modified mine to take a "proper" aeg barrel, hop rubber and nubbin and it worked wonders. Apart from that, all I did was clear the awful grease out of the gearbox (like Panzerlied did) and re-do it with decent quality stuff. Total cost? About £40 - 50. The Firesupport upgrade seems a tad expensive to me, no matter how effective they claim it to be.

As anyone that has had one apart will tell you its not nice inside there, the shimming on all the ones I have was appalling, huge amounts of grease & a nasty hop, after adding a systema 6.04mm inner barrel, modding the hop, fitting metal oiless bushings & a few other parts you have a nice gun, the internal build quality & messy assembly on all the ones I have taken apart is the worst I have ever seen on all the cheapsofts, I have taken apart & rebuilt about 9 of the MP40s so far, the later ones are better, its important also to use the correct grease if you want long term reliability,

I just had my MP40 apart whilst using the guide Steve sent me... Shouldn't be a problem to fit a systema 6.04 barrel and a guarder hop rubber. In fact I've just ordered the parts from ehobby asia £30 total.

Here's hoping it'll make my MP40 shoot as straight as my Tommy gun and sten! :)

I would like to replace the hop up and barrel on my MP40 as well. Can anybody please send me the guide on how to do this?

Thanks!

I dont believe there's a "said" guide, but someone will be able to point you in the right direction, as its a bit of a custom jobby, i think.

I agree totally with the tightbore barrel and hop mods, and maybe re-greasing the gearbox. Although , the gearbox on my MP40 was correctly greased and shimmed, so I guess I was lucky. The standard piston and mainspring work just fine. Mine shot at 320 fps out of the box and accuracy was not too bad at all.

My advice is buy the standard gun and see how it shoots. You need to put a couple of thousand rounds through it first to see how it settles in before making a decision.

I took my MP40 with new barrel and hop rubber to F&O this weekend. It now fires at a nice consistent 310fps and is dead straight with a very good range.

I used the guide Steve.D supplied. If need be I can pass this on to others who want to try it, but it was Steve's baby and he deserves the glory got getting it sorted.

I think that just about finishes the work on the MP40 for me... new barrel/hop rubber; midcaps; removed the fire selector. :)

This unofficial "guide" that is floating about would any one be able to PM or email it to my self?

I'm looking to get the Hop and barrel changed in my MP40 for going to POW on Sat 5th, I have heard that you can use the Real sword type 56 Hop unit and a MP5 barrel.
Also needing a battery for it as well. Any one here used a real sword hop unit or able to suggest a battery?

sgt tom, all 3 of my mp40s have had a single peice barrel, the only gun i know with a two peice barrels was the dboys k98

Actually, the agm mp40 does have a two piece inner barrel. The brass barrel and the plastic hop sleeve. This plastic hop sleeve portion of the barrel is what the hop rubber slips over, and where the bbs are fed through; as opposed to the one piece brass barrel (of the more common AEG variety) in which both the hop rubber attachment and bb feed occurs.

i wouldnt count the hop chamber as part of the barrel, what i meant is the barrel is a single peice of steel/brass , connected to the hop chamber, whereas on the deboys the barrel is join in two seperate parts

Actually the plastic hop sleeve end is a separate entity from the hop chamber. It acts as a barrel as it is mated with the brass barrel and is where the bb starts it's journey down the barrel. I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything but it is Part 1 of a two piece barrel system of the AGM MP40. This 2 pc barrel is the source of some leakage and a less efficient hop-induced spin. Replacing this with a regular AEG 1 pc barrel will do wonders for range and shot consistency. Cheers!
