welcome as for guns well i do german heer and falshy i use thompson k98 and a lugar but thats just my choice there is always the captured weapon theory.although i would not use the thompson when playing heer as its a bit to far fetched.but you will soon realize were an easy going bunch
theres nowt so Permanent as temporary
AGM sten is available from Airsoft World for just shy of £200. It is pretty good by all accounts. The TM thompson is outstanding, and the Cyma one is not too far behind. The AGM MP40 is a bit hit and miss, I know many people who say they perform well, but mine (for example) is bloody awful.
As for dedicated WW2 sites, I only know POW up here in Scotland.
Oh, and welcome!
I have the M1A1 and the MP40 and both are excellent guns. The new AGM Sten was selling fast at the Caen weekender today and the buyers seem happy so another one to consider.
If you`re still in Yorkshire then you should be ok as most CIA games tend to be held up north or the midlands. Most game threads have a lift section where you may be able to travel to a game with someone for a bit of petrol money.
As for guns the later MP40s are ok, Thompsons an all round good performer, the AGM sten has just come out so hopefully there will be a few reviews popping up on here shortly. The MP44 has got good reviews so far but you might be limited to late war scenarios in a few games.
Rifle wise, the only useable "off the shelf" one is the Tanaka K98, the DBOYS K98 is junk. The other options are custom rifles, S&S make a Lee Enfield, and a Garand conversion for an M14, and some of the peeps on here have built custom K98s themselves.... have a browse through the weapons threads.
If you haven`t skirmished for a while don`t forget about the VCR bill before you try and buy a gun.
Your choice of weapon should be linked to your choice of uniform - so that is the first decision to be made - at least, it was for me.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Ditto. Knew I was going US, so bought a thompson.
Yeah thats the thing, I really like the look of the PBI guys in their South Staffs British kit but what weapon choices are available to me if I were choosing to keep it authentic? Mind you there is always the captured weapon theory I suppose?
well, there's now a sub £200 AGM sten out, which is perfect! The only other 'realistic' weapon choice would be an Enfield No. 4, or least likely, a thompson.
As for captured weapons, the MP40 would be the most likely, plenty of photos of brit airborne using them.
Yeah thats the thing, I really like the look of the PBI guys in their South Staffs British kit but what weapon choices are available to me if I were choosing to keep it authentic? Mind you there is always the captured weapon theory I suppose? From what I've seen so far though the Commonwealth is a little bit underrepresented! Must..resist..temptation..to buy..kit..before September..
Thanks for the welcomes!
Probably the ideal thing to do then would be crack on with your three open days, get your VCR defence. At the same time start collecting a few bits of Brit kit, once you have the basics pick up one of the AGM Stens which may have come down in price by then. I believe Sabre Sales are pretty cheap for Brit stuff. http://www.sabresales.co.uk/
The VCR thing is three games in not less than two months, so ideally if you go to a game a month, after three months you`ll have your defence. If you look on the UKARA website I think there is a downloadable form which you get stamped or signed each time you play, this then gets you a UKARA number which retailers can check to confirm you are a skirmisher and not a nasty bank robber.
The Viva Sten is more expensive, about £300 I believe, there are reviews in the weapons threads. The AGM is a clone of the Viva and has only just arrived in the UK, this currently costs about £190. I`d hang fire and see if the AGM one comes down in price in a few months.
As for the mortars I believe Kermit is the chap to ask.
The mortars Gunman and CiA use are based around the system developed by TLSFX. It uses a purpose-made pyro that has two bangs - the first of which launches the pyro while an internal fuse burns to give a timed discharge of a 'thermobaric' type some time later once it has landed. The pyro itself it put in a steel holder, then struck like a regular grenade or smoke and dropped into the mortar tube. After discharge the steel shell can be recovered via a hatch in the bottom of the tube. It is a specially designed system fully complying with all HSE and other legislation requirements.
Oh, and a bit of a guide to the VCRA minefield: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8301&p=134985
Well since you won't be able to buy anything until after you've played the three games, then they all will be with rented or borrowed equipment
Oh and another question..how do the mortars actually work during games?
This entertaining, informative and well produced video should give you some info
Holy cr*p - that's me!
Thanks for the video link Herts, was good watching! I'm clear on the mortars now.
There are also a couple of other mortars, like mine and yiths, that operate by dropping 40mm moscarts down them. Obviously they fire a shower of BB's rather than a pyro.
wow, nice vid, always wondered how mortars work for airsoft! cheers
