this has probably been asked before but...
i'm very interested in all stuff ww2 and I really wanted to buy a dboys kar98
it was mainly to have as an item rather than go skirmishing with
is there any way i can get one without having one of those airsoft licenses?
I live rather far from the nearest airsoft site and i don't want to have to go three times and spend like £100 to get a license
getting the license would effectively double the cost of the gun and that seems pointless!
hope you can help

No help I'm afraid, your government has decided to prevent collectors buying RIFs. The only two categories that can legally be sold them are airsoft skirmishers (if you are over 18, but you have discounted that) and reenactors. A reenactor isn't a gun collector.

Frankly, if you just want something to put on a wall then buy the real steel, deactivated of course.

an old deactivated one would cost considerably more than getting the license and the dboys
like £500 more

Cost isn't the important thing here, is it? It is whether you can or can't legally be sold something.

There is one thing I will add to this.

Airsoft site operators and re-enactment associations are well aware that some people will try and use the various defences under the VCRA in a way that they are not supposed to be - and they will act accordingly.

Sorry, but that is completely wrong.

K98's from Ryton Arms start around the £200 mark, the same goes for DWSUK.

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Yes, you will get a de activated one in good order for around £190 to £215, this will still have a bolt that can be operated, Ryton arms have some nice ones in stock.

so you can get a deactivated kar98 that is effectively the REAL thing
yet one that is a replica airsoft kar98 cannot be bought without a license...
is that true!?
if so our government has gone barmy
if either one needed a licence it'd be the deactivated one which is surely easier to make into a working gun
am i wrong here?

yes, it's true, though it's just as improbable that you'll get a deac firing live rounds as an airsoft gun these days. Most 're-engineered' guns that have been illegally altered into live firing guns are actually dodgy eastern european blank firers that are already illegal in this country anyway. Plus blank firers are now covered by the same legislation as airsoft guns.

Basically what it came down to is that the militaria collectors had a bigger/better/louder voice when the legislation was being argued over, and so they ended up with a specific exemption.
