I use U-Pol P38 filler. It sands pretty easily and doesn't tend to chip.

Seconded, or buy it (steel epoxy) from your local Wickes DIY store. :good:
It's what I used on my Thompson mag conversion; http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/php/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7580, and many other projects.

i use quick steel a lot,its good gear but mix it well as it can leave a streaky finish if not. very strong stuff ,it can be tapped if needed and sets fast too.body filler can be a bit soft although gets a nice finish and if its unlikely to get damaged then is fine but not in an area of stress or wear.also consider milliput if you want to sculpt it for say a knurled finish and comes in various colours.

I agree with Jetta, if you want a really fine finish between filler/putty/rapid steel and other materials, something like car fine body filler or even "knifing stopper", sanded with fine wet and dry papaer is the way to go.

About 3 minutes, so mix only a little at a time.

Right folks, managed to get my mitts on a reproduction stock and have spent the best part of this afternoon using google sketchup to model a bolt carrier for the G43. I'm thinking on getting parts 3D printed and then cnc'd. May be the only way to do some of what I have planned.

This site is damn good for 3d printing of parts (cheapest you'll get) http://www.shapeways.com

Use Pa220 (white, strong, and flexible) and after a priming, sanding and painting you'll be away :good:

Why not alumide? Looks a winner to me but I've never seen or really looked at 3D printing before!

Its a little more brittle, and as such less resistant to shock damage. If you had theh money I'd say go to the other end of the spectrum and get it done in SLS stainless but you'll be dropping a considerable amount of money on that :(

Another option would be getting in contact with a company who own a 5 axis metal mill, and have it milled from a solid billet, but again price.

Hope this helps :good:

EDIT: To get your sketchup model milled/3d printed you'll have to have the file converted to a .STL file, I don't know if sketchup can do that natively but it's worth checking :D

This is one of his stocks mate.

Ooo, I'd be keen on a G43 or k98 stock. Been thinking about building an MG42 as well so may end up bulk buying from him...
