It's not just personal preferences either - My local site has banned 8mm ammo for some reason.

Similarly, my local parliament has banned 8 mm airsoft ammo for some reason. :-(

This is a joke.

I hope the ICS rep in the video got it wrong, but if it is 8mm then I'll opt for Marushin's new CDX CO2 M1 Carbine instead.

AGM MP40 - AGM STG44 - CYMA Thompson M1A1 - WE P08 4 inch - Marushin M1 Carbine GBB - AGM Sten MkII

Unfortunately, that would put it more into the "niche market" of WW2 airsofting, rather than having a more widespread appeal.
e.g. Just because the mag capacity is 30, doesn't mean you HAVE to put more than 8 in it...

So the realism bods can put 8 in for their WW2 games, but 30 for open days. ;)

I've lobbied.

Was seriously looking forward to this as my guns are less than reliable. I think they've made a big mistake from even a cursory glance at opinion.

I hope the 6mm and real wood combo is one they do... as that's what I'd be interested in.

Absolutely no need to lobby: http://www.airsoft-squared.com/post/287 ... its-an-aeg

There will be ABS stocked and wood stocked models as well as 6mm and 8mm ones.

I can't access that link here at work, but I'm guessing the lobbying is due to the 6mm not being mentioned somewhere when 8mm was. That could be a mistaken omission, it might not. Best to express a potentially unnecessary opinion now, rather than be sorry later when ICS say "we didn't get any objection when we said 8mm, but not 6mm."

The wording is tricky, but to read it as it's written, I would take a guess at their being 4 models, 6mm ABS, 6mm Wood, 8mm ABS, 8mm Wood.

6mm Wood would obviously have us lot all over them, I'm not sure whether I would relinquish my 8mm gbb for one though. I pick my shots! :)

A bit more info - it will be based on an M14-type gearbox, semi-auto only and will be offered in plastic and real versions.
So 6mm after all?

You know what? Personally I hope they only release it in 8mm with an 8 round mag and plastic only stock, that way it'll be really easy for me to resist wanting to buy one! ;)

Seriously though the possible choice of calibre and mag capacity don't seem to be the most sensible of decisions. As much as I'm all for limited ammo capacities an 8 round limit is a bit daft when talking of airsoft.

As for the representation ICS had on display they could do with giving the eventual release a wartime pattern trigger guard, a lock bar rear sight and a single slot gas plug would be lovely too as would sorting that bloody awful butt plate.

That's good to hear. Here's hoping they'll continue to set trends and suggest a RRP to try and keep this from being another "specialised" aeg that sits on the store room shelves because no-one can afford it.

I guess the Positive is that ICS released a very good Grease Gun at a reasonable price. However the Negative is that ICS have now taken over 12m to chop an M14 into an M1... When we've had perfectly good AEG M1s for flipping years - just the mag issues, some cosmetic details and the price have stopped a load more people getting one.

What are ICS doing? It had better be something really special. Also if they've only got a prototype at the Shot Show, I'll be surpised if oe gets to the shops this year.

Some more info -

General consensus is that as they've not even got an engineering prototype or master to show it's gonna be a good few months till they're even starting production. Unless they just didn't bring one. :?

Yes, looks to be a long way off testing one in the field! Still, he did say 8mm AND 6mm versions and he must have been speaking to the ICS chaps on the stand, so all is not lost yet ...

New batch of photos. Looks like they've painted the 3d printed prototype for some reason. The print lines are a dead giveaway. Also they've broken the front sight. Anyway you only get to make a first impression once so judge away! -

ICS have just responded to the post I made on their facebook page to say simply "it will be 6mm".

So phew... ! :)

Yep, that looks pretty gash at the moment- broken front sight and lines all over the gas tube and runner for the bolt handle, brilliant presentation there!

That's from the rapid prototyping/3D printing.
