You'll want to lose the outer barrel anyway.
Get a new inner barrel which is at least the right length and carefull cut it to size. Make sure the end is perfect.
As for a new outer barrel, B&Q do lengths of steel tube that work brilliantly.
I think so yes.
Take a look at my custom SMLE here:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7765&hilit=SMLE
Uses a VSR-10 rather than a BAR-10, but basically the same.
The hardest part is the joining of the stock.
The VSR/Bar10/Bar10G Cylinders are practically all the same and the volume can handle barrels up to 700mm long.
The velcro works fine. The mag has never fallen out and they're easy to take out when needed.
The only issue is that I have to push the mag in when you push the bolt forward to load a bb into the chamber. This isn't really an issue as my left hand is always in the right place anyway.

Pants, why didn't I wait before buying bits.
Cheers for that, but I've just received the metal work for a No1 Mk3, £25 on ebay. Only things I'm missing now are the rear sight, brass butt plate and the band by the trigger (but I'm going to make that).
I believe it's what you call "sods law" mate, best of luck with your project

You did okay, that sale is all No4 woodwork, & bands (not really any use for an SMLE) with the addition of an SMLE nosecap.
the band by the trigger (but I'm going to make that).
I'd buy that as it also goes around the magazine.
Doesn't cost much and would look better than a hand made one most likely.
