Is there an alternative to the ZF41 scope which can be used with the Tanaka K98? It's always looked daft to me sitting so far forward on the gun and 1.5x seems a bit weedy
look on ebay, you sometimes find old scopes, but you may have to improvise on the mounts as 98K period ww2 mounts are 100s of pounds, I have seen a adaptor to take weaver mounts but its weather u want it to look period

Funnily enough I really like the ZF41 scope - the magnification is actually quite well suited for airsoft. Might seem odd but I never use the iron or optic sights on any of my guns - just looking along the barrel is good enough and much quicker target aquisition! And yet the K98 is the only rifle I always use the scope with - probably to do with being single shot and the hit has to count wheras with an AEG I can afford to use 10 rounds to do the job.
I used to have a 4-9x scope on a GSpec and I hated it, even 4x was too powerful and had a narrow field of vision - the 4x SUSAT on the SA80 was better for spotting and had a more useful wider FOV though a very close eyepoint. And yes, the ZF81 eyepoint is waaay back but easier to use with goggles & glasses. Being a marksman's scope rather than a sniper scope I think it fits the airsoft role very well.
Just personal thoughts!

I toyed with the 'alternative' that's available. even looked at some RS mounts - but the way the Tanaka is constructed led me to looking for the ZF-41 by Tanaka.
Like Dave mentioned it's actually a great Airsoft scope - A. if you can source one and B. once you get used to it
This is all useful stuff - thanks chaps. The scope mountings do seem to be the main stumbling block here, hard to find and eye-wateringly expensive...
Just found this on ebay - a "no gunsmith" mount for a K98
