Hi chaps,
after doing some research for parts for a M1 Carbine project and my emails not getting me anywhere i have noticed an increase of
going on ebay. But as far as i am aware in America the M1 Carbine is classed as an "Assault Rifle" so trigger housing's can not be send out, unless you have the correct firearm documentation. If i ordered one of these what do you think my chances are of getting one through customs? As i already have a spare carbine stock kicking around (FAT marked italian impression anyone?
) and i think it would be great if i could use some of the trigger housing parts in a custom gun project.
So your thoughts?

is a piece of a firearm!
Perhaps the customs I'll stop (seizure)
But I have ordered many parts from the USA to Thompson (trigger, bolt, pilot plate, selector, buttstock)
Always OK
However, the customs can stop

Hmmm thats intresting to know that you can get a few bits and peices through. But the M1 Carbine is under "restricted models"
http://www.gunpartscorp.com/RestrictedModels.aspx
and these guys wont send me any M1 Carbine parts. Full stop! Where as the M1A1 is under restricted weapons (but not parts!) Just annoyng really. Also i was after a peice of joining metal for my garand, but many gun smiths just dont ship anything outside the US. If anyone finds a site which will ship let me know this is what i am after....
I have already contacted this site but nothing back from them so far ![]()

Gun Parts NOT ship to EUROPE!
Ship only in USA!
I know, because I have contacted long ago!

IMA USA will ship some things to the UK - I recently got some Thompson front end woodwork and a Sten grip from them.
Best bet is to contact them first - and IMA do answer.
BTW, I've read some US state laws defined an "assault weapon" by general criteria such as having select-fire - meaning Thompsons and Stens could be classed as assault weapons, but MP40s, M3s, etc. are not.
Auto Ordnance make new M1 Carbines:
http://www.auto-ordnance.com/PA-1AO_m1.html
At the bottom it says
Not legal to sell in certain states. However, local laws may also prohibit this firearm. Please check with your local law enforcement agencies.
The places you're trying might be in such restricted areas.
As new specification deactivated weapons in the UK require the trigger housing on automatic rifles and SMGs to be rendered useless by welding or cutting certain parts, that carbine trigger housing would be seen as a Section 5 part in this country. If customs stopped it, you would be looking at five years in the nick plus a hefty fine. Don't go on what the US dealers say is restricted, because that refers to their firearms laws, not ours.

Don't do it
Are "straight-pull" M1 carbines available? If they are, and if they use the same trigger housing, they'd not be section 5.

Hmm thankyou for raising this point.
But as its just a trigger housing with no other parts (including the trigger!) would this still be in breach of the law? What would be needed to make it legal i surpose my question would be? As i could always ask the ebay member to cut and weld it etc? At my expence of course.

If its got restricted end users and/or requires an export license to export it, you won't have to worry about UK customs stealing it. The company won't sell you it.
