only bit that worry me is cutting the original wood body to the right lenght. any suggestions?

or should i just hang it all and try to get a real m1 garand wood set (if so i guess its best to get from usa)

It's really hard to get the real wood garand set to fit an AEG.

The problem is the motor has to fit in the hand grip area and it's very thin on a real garand wood set. So thin you'll probably end up with not enough wood to keep the stock in one piece.

Far better is to shorten the M14 stock to fit... If you go too far you can always shorten the outer barrel a little bit!

I don't think I've ever shared this with everyone, it's not 100% finished but I'm pretty pleased with it so far.

M14 donor gun, M14 stock cut to size and gaps filled in and a few little upgrades. I've also converted it to single shot only.

Due to the recent hysteria around guns in the US, I decided to just go ahead and order two more M1s from the CMP... I'll make sure to post pics when they arrive!

According to Land Warrior's Facebook page, they are about to start taking pre-orders for the G&G M1. https://www.facebook.com/LandWarriorAirsoft?ref=stream

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but there is a short 70 round mag for the M14 which may not stand out as much on Garand conversions. It may be useful for those peeps who haven`t been able to make/source the short shotty mags or the shotshell conversion.
Firesupport have a box of 4 for £44 or you can get them singly on fleabay for about £11 each

Now that is interesting, especially for those walk on days when you simply HAVE to go in WW2 kit and need some extra ammo capacity against "ordinary" skirmishers.

Thanks for the heads up.

I got round to getting one of those recently mentioned MAG short M14 magazines, it doesn't look too bad and as I said before that little extra capacity at normal walk on days won't go amiss.

Looking through this thread again has made me get all the parts of my own M1 out again. I've finally got the donor M14 firing at the right fps, range and rate after ages of fiddling. (it was all in the M1 stock but the tight fit made things like adjusting the selector bar and motor height a nightmare. I figured I'd get the thing working 100% before dropping it into the new stock.)
I'm not completely happy with the stock and the metalwork I have so I may just go and machine replacement parts. :good:

Finally got the stock done. still a bit iffy on the shape. The stock was some kind of walnut maybe American. A few coats of walnut wood dye, and two of boiled linseed to get this shade, I'm going to keep oiling for the rest of the week.
I decided to just clean up the metalwork that came with it for now but I've definitely got a few parts to replace. A few screws to swap out and some more oiling too plus a custom shotgun mag adaptor and it'll be done! Going to take it out to POW for a field test Sunday. :good:

A before pic of the stripped stock -

M1 garand is the way to go. There are no common M1 carbines that are really up to much.

Well king arms are looking to bring a m1 carbine out but depends on how fast you want a gun. Hear a lot of good things about the ics Garand though.

Get a Garand. They were by far more common, and the ICS is extremely good. The Marushin, if you like a challenge, is fun to play with.

ICS Garand all the way.

Fire support have started to stock spare gearboxes etc and parts will never run out.

The Marushin one is indeed a challenge but spare parts let alone spare mags are impossible to find in.

As for the Carbine the King arms is going to be C02 powered which may make the FPS too high if your not willing to experiement and downgrade it.

Just a brief write up on the ICS Garand from a newbie to the hobby. This is my first Airsoft gun.

I got mine on Saturday, rocking it with a 7.4v battery like a few of you have suggested.

First impressions were of impressive, rugged build quality. Mine feels extremely sturdy; good weight and I wouldn't worry about dropping this and having it shatter in to a thousand pieces. The wood felt pretty good, a little dry, though I've bought some Raw Linseed Oil and will get to work on that once Christmas has died down.

Had a brief firing test with it this morning. I'm not sure of the FPS on mine; somewhere around the 330 fps region, according to Josh. The range is pretty beastly; accuracy is also extremely good on mine. Certainly feels to have better range and accuracy than the MP40 I used at Highway, though that's to be expected I suppose. I remember Lutz and I were a bit gutted that we could often see targets without a chance of hitting them, we had a bloody gorgeous line of sight on some Brit Infantry when we were in cover, but you were well beyond range. I'd feel a bit more confident with this, though again, I'm inexperienced with these things so maybe the difference is less substantial than I imagine.

It makes a nice, meaty 'clunk' when it fires, as well. :)

In all, I'm really chuffed with mine. With shit loads of spare parts everywhere, relatively cheap mags, this is going to run and run.

:good:

Range is something one gets accustomed to. I started off thinking 'aww, I should be able to get that guy', now I know to wait patiently for them to come closer.

Wait until you see the whites of their eyes! :)

(Or maybe the ISO standards on their eye-wear)
