Hi Guys,
Seems like every1 is making custom WW2 guns these days, so I thought why not jump on the preverbial band wagon and make myself 1. I have opted for making an M1918a2 BAR from an AGM M14 from rsov. The construction of the 2 guns is very similar, and infact the BAR is only 2 inches longer than the M14!
Here are some early pics of the progress:
First of all the AR Rig, M14 mags fit nicely doubled up in the pouches.
The front grip, its made out of MDF and lots of hard setting no more nails glue, at the mo it still needs a bit more smoothing, and the middle cut out for the barrel.
Photo of the M14 with the top barrel cover taken off, the main barrel goes all the way back to the receiver and it is firmly attached.
The front iron sight, I have cut off the oringal sight sides | / and replaced it with a hoop style sight that is on the BAR.
I have also cut off and made flat the bayonet attachment point on the bottom of this assembly.
If you have any comments so far theyre welcome, but please no rivett counting unless I have made a blarring error, in which case you're advice would be great
Cheers,
W
looking good so far. interested to see how you make the body etc down the line. if its fairly easy may give it a whirl myself
Yeah thats the pickle bit, thinking about giving the body an outer facelift, ie attaching a metal skin over the top of the existing plastic.
Removed all of the M14 minus the barrel to the hop unit in front of the mag well. Have also re-enforced the main barrel with some 2mm thick aluminum tubing, the lower gas chamber will comprise of a slightly narrower tube, running from the end of the cosmetic M14 gas tube.
webb, let me know if you want any measurements,
cos i,v still got that de-ack BAR sitting here
team shoot and scoot, TL
Thanks Warren, appreciate the help! I have a 1:1 scale drawing that I made on Autocad here, but could do with a photo of the rear iron sight when you have a spare moment
looks very good so fair webby :]
Looks even better now
Quick update for yah, I have created and attached the forward grip, out of real wood this time, not MDF, so that I can stain it properly.
I think the grip is a little on the big side, maybe its just the pic, but it has been done to as near damnit to real dims.
Yep its gettin there.
I may have a go myself some time I have a spare M14 and a BAR in the loft to copy.
My only concern is the strength of the barrel fixing with you not having a full continuous stock anymore.
With the 30cal strength was not a problem as it was all welded together.
Free speech is expensive these days!
Had an issue with the gun in the training day, in the fact that full auto function stopped working, took the middle working bits out, to find that there was a grubby bit of polystyrene (prolly from the packaging) stuck in the fire selecter unit!
Better to find out on an open day any quirks though so you can iron them out
Yea Absolutely! Stupid polystyrene *grumbles inaudiably*
I meant better to have it occur on training day than open day
I know chuck! I'm on your wavelength don't worry!
Full metal BAR for VFC... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4TpPwcraZ4 No idea what it's like but I want one!
Yeah, they made about 20 of them, and they sold out before they even went on sale.
Meant to say Webby, 1st version of the BAR didn't have the bipod, so you don't have to bother now
Yea, mines based on the A2, the schematics I have it has the bipod on it.
Apparently most of the soldiers using BARs ditched the bipod because it weighed the front of the gun down too much
