Just a quickie.
Does anyone use propane in these?
If so:
What's the average muzzle velocity with 0.45s?
Can it damage the gun?
What precautions do I need to make regarding keeping seals lubed?

I used propane in mine at CR, you apparently need to add to the propane tank a few drops of silicon, so that the gas lubractes the gun as you use it, I didnt actually manage to hit anything with it at CR, but I know it shoots much further than on normal gas.
I've wondered about using more powerful gas in mine, too. I've always felt the blowback is a tad more delayed than it should be, but I was advised to use 134 (aye, right). So far I've been using Abbey Ultra, but as it has a rotten record for breaking anyway, I was thinking about using green and to hell with it.
P.S. how do I take the bolt carrier out of the receiver? There appear to be two 'pegs' in the way, stopping it come out to the rear when broken down.
I found this on one of the American boards;
I don't have any R134a, and don't plan on buying any. I bought an Airsoft Innovations Propane Adaptor for my gas pistols, so I tried using it with the Garand.
It just vents right back out the overpressure relief valve...at first.
* Remove the trigger unit.
* Unscrew the Stock Screw and remove the stock. Set aside.
* Unscrew the relief valve from the brass fitting in the front of the gas reservoir. Set aside.
* Unscrew the brass fitting that the relief valve was in.
* Put one turn of teflon tape on the relief valve and thread in the BACK side of the brass fitting you just removed.
* Put two turns of teflon tape on the brass fitting, then replace in the front of the gas reservoir.
* Replace the stock and stock screw.
* Lock the bolt back.
* Have a change of underwear handy.
* Fill Garand with Green Gas / Propane.
* Take Garand into the back yard.
* Chrono Garand at 480-510 FPS with .34g BBs.
* Change underwear.
I also found this tutorial about sorting out the marushin garand to make it more reliable http://www.gordak.com/ww2aa/garandtut.htm it explains why part 45 tends to break and how to avoid it happening.
Pete, you're a legend. I think you answered snipper's question in another thread, too. Thanks mate.
Well Im not sure you'd be able to use that gun doing that kinda FPS, its pretty dangerous with a 6mm let alone an 8mm

Dichotomy no ?
Remember I ditched it about 2 hours into the game having only shot it at a bush. Only other time it was fired was back up at the car
Plus it wasnt doing that kinda FPS, it only hurt marginally more than it being on the 'green gas' I used before
Just laughed, needed to go look up what Dichotomy meant
The only chance I had to fire mine before it broke last sunday, was at my mates arse as he walked away. Apparently, I looked pretty authentic crouched behind a big metal cylinder, swearing and trying to unjam my rifle, before ditching it in the grass and pulling my 1911 out.
I stripped mine on Sunday and did the improvement work that Gordak recommends.
I'm still a bit to find out if these guns can take more than 134a, anyone know ???
Pete.. is there any pics to go along with that text you have posted............... I'd rather have pictures to help with doing this job
I will take the Garand out this Sunday coming to see how good or poor the thing is.
Kav... try and remove the 4 screws that holds the top half to the bottom half, try and hold them apart and wiggle the bolt-carrier out of its home.
Tired ?? come and i will put you too sleep BANG BANG
Hooray!
After a long enough wait, I finally got my spare part no. 45 from my old flat, and set about doing the repair work. The only thing I wasn't able to do was tighten the bolt screw (because it's really small in diameter), but it was very stiff anyway, so my plan is to strip it after every skirmish and tighten everything again while I lube it.
9mm, I've been using mine on Abbey Ultra since I got it, and I've had no problems with venting or bust seals, so as long as the valve is nice and tight, you should be OK (at your own risk ).
