as the title says, Maxim's machine gun model 1910 on Sokolov's mount

as i own sod all in the russain gun department, and im not quite ready to buy one

im going to have a bash at building one of these,
-- attachment is not available --

im going to go on a general build, not going into anal levels of detail, just getting one to be looking right from 6 feet away
im planning on chopping up and rewelding a cement mixer chassis as a carrage and mount, also having a steel gunsheild fittted, with maybe ak or probably mp40 internals, fed from an electronic box mag.
it should be hard enough to drag about as ill use real steel for the carrage, sheild and gun body, the barrel jacket will probably be plastic filled with some kind a ballast.

i personally think (after lugging tinys 18kg mg 42 about) that a support weapon should be heavy, to allow for the firepower benifit to be curtailed by serious lack of manouvarability.

Why not buy a real mount? They are not expensive at all plus you can mount anything from a 1919 to a m2hb on it. I have my m2hb mounted on one right now but I can swap it out for one of my 1919a4's in just a few minutes. Mines 1917 dated and has a bullet hole. The mounts weigh 70 lbs(32kg) and the whole setup is just under 160lbs(73kg).

LOL, no, its the real deal.

I actually found this forum because I want to do some research on barrels and gear boxes so I can make a airsoft conversion for my 1919a4's and my sten MKII's My whole goal for the 1919's are to be able to rip out the internals and have another set that will slide in there place, I have some barrels laying around and I could just sleve a old .308 barrel and used a modified barrel extension to hold the gear box. The part that I am hung up on is how to connect the trigger and the cocking handle. I wont hijack the thread any longer but if somebody has any ideas or can PM me some pictures of the internals of one of the airsoft stens it would really be appreaciated.

thanks for the idea, but the shipping on one of those mounts would kill me, also the import tax would also be due on the shipping cost as well as the mount.

its cheaper and less hassle to just make the bugger, but thanks for the idea, and nice collection :D

I dont think shipping would be much at all if you bought one from a privite person who would be willing to break it down for shipping. Mine shipped in 3 pretty small boxes. Sucks about the imporatation costs....

Same in NZ- gun crime 'mysteriously' rises no matter whether the blues or the reds are in power, and I think the impetus for such laws comes from the media rather than the govt. Some sanctimonious twit reading from an autocue 'demands' action from politicians & has more say than the average citizen...

On the bright side, they usually only enact laws that don't work in order to appease these folk! (VCRA anyone?)

Oh wait, that's a bad thing isn't it, sorta?

You can, you just have to move to the US.

One of my good friends back in HS moved from england to the US when his mother met a man on a online dating website. He said EVERY thing is different here. "You don't relaize that you were not free until you taste true freedom" Although I dissagree with him about the term "true freedom", we do have a good deal of restrictions, I do agree that you all get the short end of the stick in a lot of different ways.

Here you can freely carry what ever gun you want, I ride a motorcycle 3/4th of the year and if I need to hit a store or go to a resturant on a range day I throw it on my back and go on with my business. I've never been asked to leave a place or had the police called on me because I have a ak47 or a m16 strapped to my back. Getting pulled over with a m2hb in the back of your truck is another subject all togeather, Try to convence a cop who knows jack about gun laws that you own that gun legally  I have spent some time on the hood of a police car because of THAT gun.

Last time I got pulled over with that gun I told the cop as I was face down on the hood of a car "your going to feel REAL stupid when you run that serial number"

Due to the boss NEVER leaving the bloody shop, and me being so busy with that crime they call "work" ive not made the progress id have liked on this yet.

ive got the tube work for the carrage done, and the axle and wheels sorted. i need to build up the rotory base now and then the gunsheild.

as far as the gun itself, ive got the barrel jacket and im doing the reciver this week.

the donor gun for the actual bb shooty part has been sourced, (a m4a1 that i aquired a while ago free to a good home LOL  ), the first thing i did when i got it, was put it against a wall and kick the butt off, ill not have anyone saying that i use an m4 of any kind, (ive not even fired it yet, ill only test it when its stipped to the bare minimum)

tonight i had the greatest pleasure of going at it with an angle grinder and chopping it to bits (the only decent thing to do with a Ris rail m4 :ghey: in my humble opinion) , and its down to the level where i can put it in the reciver.

-- attachment is not available --

so a very happy and de-stressed mr porta is off to bed soon, (i can wholey reccomend smashing up an m4 after a hard day at work, it does wonders to ease the stress of the day) :happydance:

hopefully ill be finnishing this project within a month, fingers crossed :D

EDITED due to my usual amount of typos, damm fingers never work on a keyboard

Finally the boss has fooked off on holiday for 10 days and i can get in the workshop

the carrage is 75% done, but is really a "looks sort of like"
it will deffinatly look the part from an enemy point of veiw, but up close the flaws will be visible (from the gunners view)

i finally got the m4 donor gun working today, it was given to me so i couldnt be fussy, the rate of fire is very fast , even with a mini battery, the guy who gave it me had it all souped up, which pisses me off a bit, i was hopeing for about 500 rpm , its actually doing about 1,000 rpm (the 100 round clips wont last long)

i also started work on the reciver today, just welded the basic box shape together, not much time this afternoon due to bloody customers, ill do all the chopping tomorrow, i knock off work at five and dont fancy doing "overtime" :D

im going for the "maxim gun made by a unskilled soviet peasant in a lenningrad under siege workshop finish" which is a good job, as thats the tools and equipment ive got to do all my metal work

here the only pic ive had time to take, its the basic gun reciver just after it was welded together (the carrage is hidden on the roof of the bosses office under a load of old boxes )
-- attachment is not available --

ill keep updateing as i get work done, sorry its been a dead thread for so long, real life, work and general lack of time, have slowed this down to a crawl
