MP001 - how easy is it to covert one of these in to a Springfield?
And how realistic does it look when you've finished?

Your best source of info on this is over on the US WW2 airsoft forums:

http://ww2aa.proboards45.com/index.cgi? ... 1191129843

Also I would advise that you spend an little bit extra and get a JG BAR-10 instead of an MP001. They are better quality and are 100% TM VSR10 compatible. They also shoot a higher FPS out of the box (usually around 420FPS) .

Hope that helps.

So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

I've done 2. one I sold to whoswill? the other I used for a while then traded to Syd. its not that hard and theres 2 ways to do it.

1. hollow out a springfield stock and put the internals in it.

2. cut the front end off a springfield stock and join it to what ever you plan to use.

I had to use method 2 because the two springfield stocks I purchased from the states were too damaged/cracked etc around the trigger/grip area. so once hollowed they were overly fragile. one of them had a huge metal bar running through the stock grip for strength heh. so I cut the front end off the springfield stock at the right place. Joined it to the mp001 stock, filled and sanded where needed. Painted both bits to the same colour. and then put on the upper handguard and the front metal band/barrel collar and rear metal band which helps to hold the upper handguard on.

with both methods you need to cut part of the mp001 or bar10 outer barrel off and replace it with copper piping.

its relativly easy to do both methods but just fairly time consuming. hardest part was getting my hands on the springfield stocks for a reasonable price. the upper handguard and 2 metal bands i got easily as they arent restricted parts and are common place over in the states.

that being said having owned both a 1903 and one of warrens garands I'd take the garand even if I had to build it myself. Enjoyed it far more and had better results with it. The 1903 was nice but was only useable for certain games/situations plus it suffered in bad weather.

I did alot of research on the 1903 whilst building it and it wasnt even popular with the troops. regular troops didnt like it as it took 3 less bullets than the garand and was a pain to reload. They also seemed to find it more unwieldy(something I found myself). the snipers didnt like it as it was a pain in the ass to reload once a scope was on it.

I didnt really look at the marines as I was more focused on the european theatre. There it was not very popular at all compared to the garand

Thanks for all the input, I'll weigh up my options and see what I can do.
I like the look of it anyway and like the idea of having a bolt action rifle.
Can you give me an idea of where you got the springfield stock from and
what sort of prices I should be aiming for, as for the other pieces I'm fairly
sure I could fabricate the wooden ones.
I know the Garand is great, but from what I can gather, it's hard work converting
the M14 and even when you buy an actual Garand they have their problems.

Anyone got the dimensions of the MP001? And if anyone has got the schematic drawings of a springfield that they could email me, then give me a pm? I might be able to make the wood stock myself.

oooookay here goes

boyds gun stocks will make you a new springfield stock for about $99 from memory(google them) but the lead times about 6 weeks. or you can do what I did and get one off ebay. for a schematic google a site called e gun parts also known as the numeric gun corp. they have schematics for the springfield on there and also have spares. maybe able to get a stock from them, i know you can get metal work from them.

as for mp001 dimensiosn try wgc or ehobby asia or redwolf as they do dimensions and stock alot of clone kit now. or just look at the regular vsr dimensions(think the mp001 is a vsr clone).
