That's what I did with mine - the micro switch isn't very robust and is in a place where it gets knocked or stuck in mud. I just cut the wires, connected them together & taped them up carefully.

Depends what you mean by 'faulty wire'. I'd suspect it's a duff connection to the switch or the switch itself. Just cut the wires either side of the switch, strip back and twist together (or solder them for a better job) and tape them up (or shrink sleeve them). Test and see it problem has gone away.
Or if you think the problem is the other end of the wire check the connections there - it's unlikely the wire itself is the problem.

The switches are VERY cheap, and it's possible the springiness of the leaf in there isn't what it should be. Add to that the contacts are probably a bit corroded/dirty, and you're onto a loser.
If you're going to open up the top of the gun, it'd be better to completely bypass the safety wiring if you can.
That wire looks a bit thin to me for the current it needs to carry.
here here, get rid of the switch completely. i had the drop on a couple of russians at border clash, poped out from behind a tree to blow them away and realised i had caught the switch on my leg and switched the safety on! good job a fello german was with me to do the job properly!
