Are you intending to actively skirmish with this project? If so, then i'd shitcan the idea of using stripper clips and shells. Simply too impractical out in the field!

Also you'll find the accuracy and power of the Dboys leaves a lot to be desired. It may be okay now, but it will get worse as the shells and other mech wear out.
Basically just don't bother with it!
If he's using it for re-enactment though, the cycling of the bolt and the shells coming out would look good.
But again correct in saying you'd be very dissapointed trying to shoot something with it in an airsoft game!
If its for reenactment events and you live in the states why don`t you get a real no.4 and some blanks, not sure what state you`re in, but firearms laws over there are a lot less Orwellian than over here. If you intend to airsoft as well why not have a look at one of Tommy Gunners custom rifles, a lot more practical than the DBoys as a base.
