As I've got to crack the GB open on my lovely new MP44 and change the spring...

What's the best spring to use if you're looking for 330-350 fps?
Anything else worth doing whilst the gun is opened up?

Cheers - HB :good:

Air seal nozzle is a must, the one in mine was the worst one I have ever seen, very poorly moulded, also the anti reverse latch is very poorly made, plus the hop rubber, nub & inner barrel if you want better accuracy,

@ General, where do you get your grease from? I'll confess to not searching but as you mentioned it I thought I'd ask :)

Zero One have a G&P Metal Air-Seal Nozzle for M4/M16A2 for £10 and a Laylax (PSS10) Spring Guide for £25. Are these the right bits?

Whilst you're in there I'd also replace the piston (I always use Aluminium ones) and piston head (get one with bearings).

PSS10 spring guide is for the VSR10 sniper rifle only! not what you want! This is what you need:

or search for Systema Spring Guide with Metal Bearing (Version 2 Mechabox) on the zero one web site.

Worth changing the bushings for steel ones while you're in there as well. :good:

I believe they already come with 8mm metal bushes mate!

I absolutely detest ally pistons. When they go tits up, they tend to take a gear or two with them. If you're planning to build the AEG up to the 350FPS mark, then there is very little wrong with the Marui pistons as they wear out slowly instead of suffering a catastrophic failure. As to piston heads, you don't really need to fit a bearing spring guide and bearing piston head at the same time unless you're using big springs - and a bearing piston head weighs a lot more than a non-bearing one. Ideally, you want to keep the total mass of the piston head and piston down as much as possible, as a lighter assembly will give a higher rate of fire than a heavier one. If going for more interesting velocities, the G&P Polyacetal piston is a good choice.

No matter what you end up going for, make sure that the angle of engagement between the sector gear and the pickup tooth on the piston is about as good as you can get by shimming the piston head (if required, of course!) so that when the sector gear hits the piston, the contact area between the two is as large as possible. Crappy AOE is the no. 1 reason why the back of pistons gets destroyed.

boshmans suggestion of a Systema bearing spring guide is a good one (King Arms do a direct copy of it as well). As it is hollow, you can shove a screwdriver through it and down into the piston to hold the whole lot in place as you reassemble the gearbox.

Strange, I've never had an ally piston go on me, unlike poly ones (although standard Mauri aren't that bad). Using lo-caps, I like the fact that they reduce the ROF and I also like the extra noise they make! Each to their own.

I always use bearing spring guides and bearing piston heads, I agree that they are designed for 'bigger' springs, but the fact that they make it easier for the spring to compress, saves the strain on the gears and hopely prolongs their life!

I didn't want to start another question thread and it's an MP44 problem so...
Whilst having my spring downgraded I asked for a tightbore barrel to be fitted. Tom Andrews has been taking airsoft guns apart for ten years, but he was flummoxed with removing the barrel from the hop unit. Has anyone else attempted this yet? If so how did you get on

hi zero bravo,
yeah fitted and new hop and inner barrel mate. it takes brute force to get it out out over that pillar thing. i put my hop and inner barrel in my hk416 to make sure it worked fine before forcing it back in to the mp44. lol didn't fancy trying to force it out to many times. i tried separating my hop from the inner barrel first but it was like it was all glued together and i ended up breaking the original hop.

hope that helps

on another point i defo recommend replacing the cut of lever mate the stock one is totally pants. i think mines a ca or tm now.

here's what happened after under 1000 shots.

I put a PDI 140 into PD and Stigs and PDs' is doing around the 325-330fps mark according to the chrono on saturday.

I think you're thinking of an M140 spring. The PDI 140 is only an M90 or M95, but I can't remember which. Confusing, isn't it?

PDI 140% spring is going to be around M95-M100 (325-335)

Thanks for the clear-up on that. That is exactly the fps range that PDs' MP44 is now within :)
