I have been busy in the workshop recently and have just completed my first prototype Schützenmine 42. It is constructed exactly as per the originals using the correct box joint(aka finger or comb joint), and to the correct dimensions. The difference is that inside it incorporates a 12-bore blank-firing gate alarm.
The mine can be used and triggered in one of two ways.
1. As per the original, the mine is burried and when stepped on the lid closes and pushes the special pin out triggering the device.
2. the device can be setup as a trip-wire booby trap as is the normal way of triggering the gate alarm.
The front of the box is re-enforced with a metal washer so that the firing pin does not damage the wood.
The 12-bore blank sits with 90% outside the rear of the box so there is no danger of the box being damaged when it fires.
9mm or .25 blanks can also be used with the apropriate dynatek type adaptor.
The box is made using marine ply and waterproof glue so it isn't going to rot or fall apart after a couple of uses. Whilst you may be thinking its just a wooded box, I could knock that up in 5 minutes, believe me, that is not the case! it took me many hours and lots of ply creating the jigs and getting the comb joint cutting to a point where I was happy with them.
After I have done some field testing and refining, and if there is enough interest, I plan of making these to order if anyone is interested?
Also if anyone would like one for re-enactment use rather then airsoft, then they can of course be made without the gate alarm and the additional holes etc.

Mine rigged for trip-wire detonation.
modifications to the bolt. additional hole and groove. This is to take into account the additional thickness of the wooden box front.

Nice work!
Reminds me of a tin box I used to have with a home made 9mm mine inside. I used to leave it around with DONT OPEN on the lid

Free speech is expensive these days!

Awesome project Boshman! What a great looking (and hopefully opperating) piece of kit. Just like an original in both ways!

This is a crude Claymore I made up a few years back when I used to play at close action.
It just used 9mm blanks and the centre-firing bar was just a large nail which ran through a bolt that I had drilled a hole through. Maybe the nail would look more like a real component on your mine.
Great work though on your creation love the detail.

thats nice, well done.
nice little project
Though you can buy/make airsoft claymores that launch BBs, it might be harder to convert the schu-mine idea to do that.
Nice one Boshman. I've got a couple of repro Schuemines here. Might have to have a play meself....

Love it Boshman, especially the warning label with its mix of the old and the new.

I'll have a couple of these to pick up at Alsos if thats ok. They are fantastic and you cant beat a 12 bore blank for making players jump out of their skins ![]()

Well, the first batch of Schu-mines is almost completed
I am just doing the final finish and applying warning labels. I am also doing a basic instruction manual to go with them.
As some of you may know, we used the mines for the first time in-game at Operation Alsos. I burried 5 mines in total and whilst every one of them was triggered
only 2 of them actually went bang ![]()
The reason for this is that the 12g shells had been pushed in slightly by the earth so they were not sitting firmly againt the mine frame. when struck by the firing pin, they moved and absorbed the energy of the firing pin so although the percussion caps were dented, it was not sufficient to detonate the shell.
This of course is not a problem with the standard alarm mines as they sit vertically and gravity keeps the shells in place.
Anyway, do not fear as I have devised a neat solution to this little problem, and a shell retaining clip will be included with every mine
Those of you that are familiar with domestic chores (probably not many of you
) may recognise the origins of this component as being the humble clothes peg!
So if you lose your clip, you can make a spare in about 2 minutes!
For those who have orders placed, I should finally be ready to start shipping at the end of this week.
