ok lots of work done. heres a picture of it so far. still very rough but most of the hard work done. just the finishing bits to do and the joining to do

its not as good as I'd hoped but still looks the part IMO

not sure it'll fit. you can probably tell from the picture its not actually a springfield stock.

what i had to do was hack the front off the springfield stock and work out how to join it to the mp001 stock. the action itself will fit in the springfield stock if your willing to spend a long long time hacking bits out the springfield stock so it'll fit(though where you hack the bit out for the mag may leave it very weak). however the mp001 barrel and the vsr barrels in general are a real copy of the original AKA shrouded! so the thick barrel wont fit properly into the front half of the stock even with extensive stock modification. I contemplated removing the shroud and putting a smaller one over it but that'd require extensive re working around the mag feed area etc

so in the end settled with the joining method. it wont look as perfect but still looks the part heh. the 2nd stock should arrive soon along with some rear barrel bands. so we should have 2 functional for churchills. and some spare wood to do other bits with hehe. Might make some victory grips for my tanaka revolver.

The MP-001 is similar but not the same as a VSR, in fact its better, my VSR cost

same shroud though if im not mistaken :P but yea see your point hehe I thought about getting a l96 to put in the stock as they have a thin barrel but the actions way to big by my reckoning. Maybe in the future they'll release a unshrouded version. plus the l96 barrel still looks to large

very nice charley. looks like you did what i was considering doing. cutting off part of the shroud etc. I may give it a go in the future but i dont really have time pre churchills. plus i was very concerned that cutting for the mag out of the stock would leave it greatly weakened. did you find that or is it still fairly strong?

its slightly harder with the springfield though as the inner dimensions of the stock mean I'd have to cut the shroud off alot further back than that one so it may not still be practical even with the time to do it

well most of it done now so 3 updated pics. joined fine and bent out the front stock cap so it fits on now heh. just waiting on the rear barrel band to complete it. and need some scope rings as it seems they arent standard weaver size. shame but nevermind.

since taking the pics the joins been sanded more to look more smooth. just need to stain the stocks, glue the join. put on the rear barrel band. and its done.

Nice.

The wood effect on the mp001 seems to match the real one pretty well too.

Think I'll have to get one of those mp001s.

aye it does but not from under 5 yrds so i've lightly sanded both and will be applying a stain/varnish

**edit** after looking at the action some more im going to attempt the barrel chop so it all sits more flush. it should work even in the joined stock

What's the performance like on your MP0001? Would you recommend one? Is it possible to fit a scope?

I think the MP001 has a weaver rail on top of the breech.

aye it has a rail. i've removed it currently as i was fiddling with it and some old scope mounts i have. (NB it wont fit most air rifle scope mounts)

Performance wise not chrono'd it yet but it shoots accuratly and straight from the testing i've done. Steve.d says they tend to come doing 410-420 fps out the box.

I've been thinking of getting one as a kind of generic bolt action rifle backup, or even a scout rifle, and I haven't heard a bad thing about them yet. It's good to know the rail comes off, I'd probably bodge some irons on it.

well i just cut the front of the barrel off so no turning back now lol. will be joining the stock permenantly in a bit. should look great.

2nd stock arrived today. and while the metalworks great the stock aint so much. very weak in some areas may have to attempt the dremel method on it as i dont think it'll cope being hacked up for the joining method

**EDIT**

stock now joined and drying. will give it another coat of stain tomorrow. should hold good and strong. barrel mod now done and just needs spraying black. so once all the bits have dried etc its ready to be assembled :)

hehe thanks for the offer but the botchs stocks mine. the first stocks who's will's :)

I'll prob have to strengthen the stock some and just dremel out the right bits as I think it wont cope with the chiseling/cutting of the joining method
