they have 4 sets in stock, typically though, when I wanted one last year they had sold out so I had to get mine in from HK, once the customs had had a cut and arseholeforce had taken what they wanted it didn't work out any cheaper! I highly recommend these kits (CAWdeluxe walnut) your thompson will love you forever if you buy one!

Yup, I have the CAW walnut kit too (also bought from FS) - very nice if pricey. Normal large battery fits fine although the TM but plate unlock and twist mechanism is removed so it has to be screwed on and off for battery removal and charging. The supplied staining is fine - mines getting nicely beat-up now, scratches get cleaned up with a wipe of furniture scratch remover!

I have just finished removing all the horrid red cedar coloured stain/varnish from a cheapsoft wood kit for thompson. Removed the furniture and fittings, then used nitromors paint stripper, scraper (stanley blade for the awkward bits) and wire wool to get a good smooth finish. wood is now completely bare and has been cleaned down with white spirit. tomorrow I'm going to look for some decent walnut coloured woodstain and will probably give it three coats depending on soakage. I have a CAW walnut kit to compare it to so will post up the results once the jobs finished.

can i make a sugestion uberwaller? soak it over night in the stain (or a few days if you have the time), let i dry compleatly for 2 days, you might not need to put a few coats on, soaking gets the stain deeper into the wood than painting and gives it a nicer"feel" .

put a coat of colron "american walnut" wood dye on this afternoon. applied with a rag as per instructions. looks pretty good now its touch dry but will plan on 2nd and 3rd coats depending on shade. the can suggests varnishing the wood but I will propably give it a good going over with linseed oil.
I'm doing this for a mate because I can't bear to look at the horrible red coloured furniture any longer!
(still, if this project turns out well, I'll be gutted that I spent £140 on a caw walnut kit for my thompson!)

turned out nice as fornby might say, I gave the wood a damn good soaking with walnut wood dye, 4 coats total then a couple of linseed oilings and it looks good.
by comparison, it is not as dark as my thompson with the real walnut furniture and I stupidly forgot to take any piccies before I gave the project gun back to waylander6-4.
I will pop round and photo the two together sometime this weekend and post the results.
