I have been looking into laser tag style systems lately as it was suggested that this was the only safe way to use a bazooka or panzerchrec in an airsoft game.
If you look here it is possible to make home made Miles Tag systems using the simple micro MT board http://www.lasertagparts.com/mt2xx.htm
However these things use PIC (programmable interface controllers) and computers to set up the parameters etc.
So I started to think are there any more basic ways to do this, I did look at the kids toy tag systems but the range isn’t good on them.
I have a friend who put this together.

I got thinking well we want about 5 shots only then a trip back to re-arm etc.
So I came up with 2 ideas that both use a cheap £1 laser pointer.
The first is a Heath Robinson way to get 5 shots with out the use of electronics.
The 6th shot in the chamber holds a sprung plunger that stops the cylinder after 5 shots, blanks can be used for effect.
Or cheap red plastic toy gun used no blanks!
I think the second idea is the most realistic but involves a pyrotechnic instead of an artificial noise making devise.
There are many screw on lenses for the laser pointers that change the shape and size of the projected beam so this could be played with to get the best set up to hit a sensor on a vehicle or bunker.
The sensing device on the vehicle can in turn set off a similar pyro.

hi oddball,
i,v got a bloke from edinbugh uni working on a system, hopefully see some components sunday,
all looking good so fare, will let you know next week

Would that be Ian, perchance? The man knows his lasers.
Micro-switches....
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Funnily enough, i've been working on a system...
If i propel pieces of 1" doweling at Oddball's tank at high enough velocity using CO2 or HPA, then a hit will be evident by the very large dent

This system needs to be made for use with all vehicles and maybe some bunkers it would be cool.
Even people with real tanks don't want paint shot off with BB's ask them.
It also isn't just the problem of hits on the vehicle it is an issue of keeping a safe distance from the vehicle you are attacking for health and safety reasons, in fact this is the more important reason for needing this.
If anyone else wants to spend £3000 making something I am more than certain I can come up with 50 ways to put a dent in it as well

Heh, Jay's only kidding, if he were serious he would have attached an explosive head to the dowel - in any case Jay writes the risk assessments!
Which brings me to a serious point. The selling points of a laser bazooka are that it's safe and effective - any explosive or burning effect immediately mitigates one of the attributes. Having something ignite next to your head and potentially near other players brings so many complications it will severely limit the weapon's in-the-field practicality.
The idea of using a revolver is ingenious as a self-limiting triggering device. But it would be cool to load the bazooka with 'rounds' before firing. How about thinking along the lines of carrying single use, non-firing, non-projectile, non-explosive rounds - shells that are integral to the firing mechanism/electrical circuit but only work once, so you can run through a loading and firing sequence. The number of shots you can fire depends on the number of rounds you have available. IIRC real bazooka rounds have a pair of wire that have to be connected up to the trigger circuit in order to fire them as they are electrically fired, not mechanically...
Yes I know he was only kidding but some others may think not to some degree, this is the problem with text some see things the wrong way:?
So no offence meant or taken either way
Good points CW hence why on the revolver idea I suggest a plastic toy could be used even, + much cheaper if you can find one these days!
With my option 2 idea it was to give a more realistic feel to the use, and the charge I would be talking about would be small and well contained no rear discharge or much frontal other than smoke. In fact it would be safer than a grenade throw that can bounce anywhere especially with the quality of our throwing demonstrated at The Eagle Has Landed
2 or 3 baffle plates can be welded in the front of the bazooka so no direct discharge of debris can happen just smoke.
It would not be as impressive as the one in my friend’s video.

The receptor on the vehicle or bunker etc could just be a beacon and horn if necessary, any number of things could be attached to a pair of wires.

Nice work.
Just one question - if you're aiming for a range of 150', or about 50m, as stated in the comments section, doesn't that mean the panzerschrek will outrange the gun in your tank?
A fair point however what range do we think the average airsoft rifle works over I would think many of mine work up to 150 - 200 ft or 50 - 66 yards
I think it may still be hard to hit the 7" headlamps on the tank even with a laser at that range so not such an easy target, experimenting has to be done.
I am not impressed with the moscart shell system though it's range is very poor!

A five year necro post? That's got to be a record! I'll forgive you because you're new here.
I think if this idea ever progressed any further, we would have seen it in action by now.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

I still have it 70% built and will get back to it just one of about 20 projects
It will be a tag light system though no projectile.

I had the thought of putting in the IR battle system from an RC tank an anti tank weapon . Not not sure of it's range, but look in to setting the receiver board to set off a smoke charge to donate a hit. But I never got further than thought so may be totally impractical.

Last I was working on this, I had just purchased some kids IR guns and chest rigs for about £15 and found they worked at about 70ft ish, they also had a hit and shot counter system which was perfect to use as you need to keep the number of shots limited.
The idea is to have a key switch located on an ammo box that has to either be carried with the weapon or the weapon toted back to a ammo dump for reset.

Nice idea about the Ammo box . I did like CW's idea of a fake projectile to make the circuit to fire, then maybe you could have it reset the switch to fire again when you remove it. I just found a 2 pistol and target chest rig set that says it fire's out to 150ft.
