I have in my posession a deactivated Mp34. Now I know I'm not allowed to touch the body or internals in any way. In an ideal world I'd strip out the internals and try to squeeze airsoft internals in there, but that's classified as reactivating the gun and therefore illegal.
Would I be allowed to use the stock and furniture around a new body? I have a couple of friends in metalwork who may be able to fashion a new body, reciever and outer barrel copied from the de-ac gun. I've got plenty of Mp40 mags, does anyone have a suggestion of what internals I should consider using?
Any advice opinions or ideas gratefully appreciated.
Jimbo

Hi mate :)

iirc correctly, you can use any 'cosmetic' part of the gun, ie stock, outer barrel, sights but you can't use any of the gubbins that you could use to fire a round down or with. (please feel free to correct or expand that)

There's a very nice Sten look-a-like on here, done with a M14 and a home-fab'd side mag-well - the same basic design should suit an MP18/28/34 nicely. If you can get hold of a wood-stocked version, it would just be a case of altering the front end accordingly and fab'ing a mag-well & side-fed hop :good:

I think you will probably only be able to use the stock for a conversion and even then it might be a bit dodgy taking it off a deact. In my opinion you're better of using it a as a guide to building one from scratch and and leaving the deact as it is since they're quite rare I believe.

I heard that you mustn't use any part of a deac to create something that fires...

Basically once the wood(etc) is on a deac then its a no-go area for conversion.

I have no idea on the accuracy of that, but I'd not risk it.

When S&S use real wood it is wood sold as spare parts, not from deacs.

Agreed with the lads above - didn't make my point well :(

Don't disemble anything as that's iffy, if you have 'spare' parts that don't make up part of the firing mechanism however (ie bought an old stock off ebay) then it's useable ...............

Probably better as Lardy says to leave the de-act as is to retain it's value - if you go down the M14 route then you'll only need to fit a perforated outer barrel shroud, and the bulk of the conversion is done.

Having mulled over your advice I think I'll clone the entire gun, rather than touch the original. It's a bit of a white elephant for me, the de-ac. I found it in a customer's shed and scorned him for letting the care go. He said he didnt want it so I did a deal and decorated his hallway stairs and landing for the gun. Unfortunately he cant find the de-ac certificate. I know he is 100% legit and he brought it from the lanes in Brighton.
I did consider making it into a table lamp, thought it might look cool, but then got into WWII airsoft, caught the bug and now want a new gun, something's got to give.
Having made recent enquiries into the value of the gun, it seems I've got to take it to be re proofed. I think there is a proof house in London I can take it to and pay a fee to have it certificated. I know there is a proof house in Birmingham but I'm hoping London can sort it.
I want to sell it to raise funds for a Tanaka K98 fully loaded.
In the meantime I've got my eye on an old piece of oak from a fireplace that may do a stock nicely. I know how hard it will be to work, but once done it will be solid.
Spoke to mate who is a steel fabricator and he's going to measure up the body and see what he can come up with. I'll post some photos of the Mp34, it's a great gun, with simple little things like a speedloader built into the magwell. 1934 and they were building speedloaders, a thing I dont recal on any other gun! I'll try my best to replcate for the airsoft version!
