I've recently bought in a couple of used DE47 shotties, with the intention of tarting one up as a Trench Gun, and mod'ing the other into a wood stock carbine, however .....................
One arrived with a badly cracked/broken cylinder and is basically 'scrap'; I've done a deal with the seller so no particular issues on the money front.
I'm left though with a perfectly good 'rifle' shell, which I'm thinking of trying to fit in a small gearbox, and changing mag wells , to give a Lanchester style smg.
Question is - is it worth it for the 'power' a LPAEG box is going to give ?
I'm happy that smg's should have a lesser range than rifles as that is realistic. I've not used anything other than the standard v2/v3 type AEG boxes so I'm working in the dark on this; I've also considered MP7/Skorpion boxes but again have no idea if they would be too big/fat to fit within the DE47 body (although should give a more useful range).
Comments/thoughts please .................. ??

Possible Swaps/Parts-Exs (with regular forum members only) -
* British BD Trousers & Blouse, to fit 48"-50" chest, 40"+ waist, tall fitting/long leg
* British Gaiters/Anklets, not blanco'd, largest size available
Split the body lengthways where the mould seam is and widen it to take any gearbox.
It's more the design of g/box that's the issue. As with most custom builds the problem of motor placement arrives (ie no pistol grip to house it) ...................
AEG possibles could be P90 or MP40, but there's also availability and cost-effectiveness to consider, hence either the LPAEG, MPAEG or MP7-type 'choices', which are cheaper and more compact.

MP7 Gearboxes are actually nice lttle cute things. With 4 gears they are very small! You can buy laylax upgrade kits for the mini smg's (nine ball is one of laylax brands if you cant find it) I would probably suggest the MP7 route instead of scorpion etc as there is like 3 china types kicking around as spares are quite easy to find etc. Also the mags will be cheap and easy to find as you can buy boxes of 5/6/10 by mag star etc.
Version 7/8 Gearboxes (7 is m14 / MP40) are just long and the motor isnt sticking down. This is good as you dont have to worry about having a pistol grip to fit the motor like in version 2/3. Version 7 gearboxes will only take ver 7 parts. Ver 8 will take ver 2 / 3parts. Hope any of that random advice helps. Working on a M1 Carbine MP7 Work around atm so have done alot of research around it.

Mags would be either Uzi lo/mid caps, as I have a M4 9mm mag well adaptor knocking about, which would mount as a side-fed magwell quite easily, already having the mag catches in place, or a custom magwell with MP40 mags just for ease of swapping mags with other players / guns.
The MP7 box looks and sounds good, but having just looked more closely at some pics, is the air nozzle off centre to the piston, it looks to be lower ? In which case, I'm not certain that there would be enough clearance in the top of the DE47 body to get the gearbox in, with the barrel (probably) resting on the lower inside of the barrel shroud ??
Don't suppose you have the dimensions of the box to hand, can't find them detailed anywhere ?

If you can find a sten gearbox (essentially a Version 7 gearbox with a straight motor cage) i think it would fit. There is an existing Sten to MP28 conversion so i don't think it will be too hard to convert it into a lanchester.

To make it clear, this is a 'budget' project, if it goes ahead. Sten>Lanchester would be an easy build, but if I had a Sten, I'd be a happy bunny anyway.
Another build option would be a PPD-38/40 or PPSh-41 style smg, which are similar in shape/looks but having a curved mag underneath would save having to fab a side-fed hop, and I could use MP5 mags, of which I have a good number.

in short mp7 boxes can be tuned reliably to put out a little over 250 fps,its not to bad close up all be it at a lower rof but will be a little disapointing at range compared to full size aeg's,if i were you i really would look at fitting a version 7 box as it really is verry linear in design, the nozzle is at the top and if you strip away the fire selecter from the side not to wide ,they are also for sale separatly for not a lot of money.

I`ve got a feeling that the Palco has a motor in the grip, you can see it in the pic. I once built a pseudo mk3 Sten using one of the old plastic lpeg gearboxes, they are surprisingly durable if a little low on fps (190). I still got enough range and ROF on a 7.2v battery. Only problem I found was that the nozzle of the lpeg box is too small a diameter for a normal hop unit.
Probably the easiest way around it is have a nose around the various forums and try and get someone to measure the MP7 box. Even if FPS is lower than a normal aeg, it will still be useable in a skirmish. ![]()

The details stated that the battery was in the grip, so I has taken that to mean the pistol grip as most L/MAEG boxes seem to have an in-line motor but blowing the pic up and looking again, I think that you're correct
The broken cylinder seems to have a fairly small nozzle so I'm hoping that the simple hop-unit that is currently fitted (BAX-type ??) may marry up to a similarly small box. I'm not after super-upgradability, just something 'fun' to use, that doesn't detract from the game play / 'suspension of disbelief' .....................
