PPS Kar98k Troubles

Hello all,

I'm having some trouble with the PPS Kar98k. I've got two green gas magazines for the gun, which I generally fill with your standard Coleman's Propane. Recently I've encountered an issue where when cocking and pulling the trigger on a full mag, the gun doesn't do anything. I get barely any pressure out of the end of the barrel, definitely no gas. It feels like the hammer is not hitting the back of the magazine hard enough. When manually testing the release on the back of the magazine, I notice that it takes a LOT of force to get it let any gas out of the back of the magazine.

I have checked, and both of the small springs are in place at the back of the magazine (Apparently these often come loose). Fellow forum member and teammate of mine, JaseB, has kindly taken my bolt to pieces and locktighted the spring inside the bolt, as apparently this can cause a loss of power also? I got the rifle second hand but it was firing just fine for a game back at the start of the year, but it's certainly not performing as it should.

I'm not much of a tech when it comes to airsoft guns, is there anything simple that can be done to fix this, or can anyone recommend someone I could send this off to to be looked at?

Thanks in advance!

I'm by no means an expert on anything technical but for a first simple fix I would suggest trying a less powerful gas. Running propane in the winter might be ok but now it's a lot warmer you should be on green gas or even ultra / 144a.
My Tanaka has an adjustable bolt that takes inserts, similar to npas. With green gas a 0.2 it will chrono at around 380 fps but on 144a it drops to 348 fps!
So I'd have a look at your propellant first.

Do you add silicone oil to the propane from time to time?

Might help to lubricate the valve o rings.

When did JaseB locktight the bolt , was it a while ago or as an attempt to fix the problem ? If it was a while ago then I'd suggest stripping the bolt and checking it again .
These guns are really simple ,pretty much the only way of loosing power is not enough force striking the back of the magazine or having adjusted the power down , so either the spring in the bolt is loose or the adjuster in the nozzle has become wound out too much .
It would also be worth trying a new can of gas , there's always a little left in the can that you can hear when you shake it but has not enough pressure in it to fill a mag , easy to get caught out by it .

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......

Yes, JaseB said he had noticed the problem before when I mentioned the problem to him, and he said that that was his fix.

I've tried a bunch of different propellants (Colman's, Brut Sniper Gas, Black Power-Up Gas), but the propane is starting to run a little empty. Thanks for your replies, i'll try a fresh can.

Did a bit of testing with my propane can last night. Managed to get through a full magazine easily, dumped it all into a box (Made a perfect circle too! )

Thanks for your assistance, just need to get some more propane that's more gas than compressed air now! :P

I too am having problems with a PPS Kar98 that I just bought.

The bolt is separate from the rifle and yet the safety is not in it's vertical position. This means the bolt won't go into the receiver.
But how do I toggle the safety when the bolt is loose of the rifle? Do I need to just disassemble the bolt and put it back together in the correct position?

I'm a touch annoyed as I had planned to use it this weekend but now cannot - ho hum!
