BB, it's been said many times now - there is no problem importing accessories, the restrictions only apply to RIFs.
So, HB, what information did customs ask you for?
No one asked me or any paperwork at all. Both guns were well packed and had 'BBGUN' written on the front in red ink and someone had obviously checked the paperwork as the plastic sleeve had been opened. But both went straight through customs. Maybe they're just busy with it getting close to Xmas?
Depends, some companies collect the fee's themselves and post you a letter a few weeks after the items been received. They pay the initial fee and then claim it back from you. So pretty much the situation pre VCR bill, but I bet its not the same everywhere or indeed every instance.
I meant checking the legality of import Helga not collecting taxes.
HB shouldn't have received the rifles at all without confirmation that he was legally importing.
I know that, my post was in reply to HB not you

No not at all... Did you not pay any duty?
Be careful. Not scaremeongering but people are having goods seized and letters sent to them. I have a friend who is a Police Officer and he had one stopped. Even being Plod didn't make him immune - I had to write a letter for him and send details of insurance and eligibility..... He recieved it a day or two ago after they checked out the validity of what I sent.
They will, if anything be extra vigilant with Xmas coimng.... after all their function is Revenue.
I also know several Customs Officers who are re-enactors..... their advice is to make sure you do it above board. Remember - there WILL be test cases sooner rather than later.
LOOK! I ham now four meggle man!

PD, you are implying HB did something illegal - he didn't and it's wrong to give the impression that the transaction wasn't 'above board'.
We are all aware of the requirements of the Act. The interesting point (and the reason why I asked the question to HB in the first place) is that HMRC didn't do their job and allowed an RIF to be brought into the country without checking the recipient was entitled to do so. Nothing to do with raising revenue and everything to do with this daft bit of criminal law.
When I imported an MP5 pre-VCR, HMRC grabbed it and charged me £20 to release the gun. This time, I had nothing at all do - they even left the packages with a neighbour. It's just (bad) luck if HMRC grab your parcel and charge you ££££s or anything else. Plus I don't think they know what to do beyond charging import duty... and Xmas means that they are flat out busy at the mo.
