I'd just like to confirm if my M2 Carbine is within limits so more maths on the way sorry.
Have now chrono'd it and (although it was annoyingly variable) the max energy was approx 0.66 J for a 0.1g projectile.
Mine was shooting 0.34g bbs so Energy = 3.4 x 0.66 = 2.24 J
Now if it counts as a "sniper" rifle it's allowed up to 500fps with a 0.2g bb so I need to find out what energy that equates to.
500fps = 150 m/s approximately rounded down
Energy = 0.5 x mass (kg) x velocity sqrd (m/s)
Energy = 0.5 x 0.2 / 1000 x 150 sqrd
Sniper Rifle Allowed Energy = 2.25 J
So my carbine at 2.24 J is about spot on (honestly I did the chrono'ing before the maths these aren't made up numbers).
BUT - the M2 has a full auto option so does that mean it's restricted to 1 J ?
By the way, I've got plenty of other guns so I'm not going to go off in a huff if the answer's "no" lol.
It's down to the individual site. At the latest meeting with the home office, the minister had it minuted that the UK limit for ALL airsoft weapons was 328+10%. This came from Ken at Fireball and I know a lot of the CiA guys think he's a very conservative chap but he's the only one I know actually attending these meetings with the govt...
GZ's open day rules are 500fps for bolt-action weapons and 425fps for semi-auto / single shot. However, I will be able to negotiate on individual cases...
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
On the subject of energy/fps calculation etc here is a nifty free tool to downlaod and pop on your desktop. It makes all manner of calculations and conversions (and has a battery charge time calculator too!)

What is it with me and computer stuff, that tool looks quite interesting but crashed direct to blue screen, twice, immediately I clicked on it.
I think I'll stick to pencil and paper.
Steiner if the limit is 425 fps for semi-auto I think it's over that regardless of the full auto question so don't worry about it, maybe I'll save it for back garden plinking and photo opportunities.

Which OS are your running? BSOD = not seen those for a long long time
Isn't the gun gas? What are you using in it?
JD7 - Windows XP! I always seem to get grief getting things working, it's a wonder I ever managed to get registered on this site.
Lardass - Have now tried HFC gas and got results from a freak 2.4 J on the first shot down to 1.2 J on the last few, with an average (mode) of about 1.5 J. The 425fps semi auto limit equates to about 1.68 J so I think it would actually be OK with this gas - thanks. Hitting anything might be another matter though.
Harborne - Interesting that the home office is now commenting on muzzle energy in a meeting which I assume was about the VCRA. I understood the VCRA is solely concerned with the fact an airsoft toy is a RIF and makes no mention of the fact that it happens to shoot pellets or what speed they are shot at.
OK, point by point.
1: Harborne Blue - Ken did not attend meetings at the HO. He was gone as the head of the UKASGB by the time it was kicking off, it was Boomer that was there.
2: I know one person who was there - in fact, he posts on here, it's Tim Wyborn.
3: 328FPS is bollocks. The HO guidance is one Joule - the case law states that anything under 1.35J isn't "lethal" - except that's bollocks as well, as it is based on thoroughly discredited 40 odd year old forensic testing from the Moore Vs Gooderam case (it should be pointed out that case law is regularly overturned in the courts). Recent testing mentioned in government documents states that lethality is somewhere between 3 and 4 Joules (from evidence given by the FSS of Northern Ireland - which happens to corroborate nicely with what the FSS in Scotland happen to state as well)
Now, for the most important bit. lethality is still decided on a case-by-case basis with a fresh set of tests on the offending item by the FSS
Finally, the crap brought up in that meeting is typical Civil Service rubbish - i.e. if you cant skin a cat one way, you try and skin it another way. Don't believe that would happen? try working for over a decade in the civil service - that crap is a regular occurrence (been there, done it myself!)
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
... No problem. Just don't blame me when they come for our guns. P1ss about with the govt by all means but right now, you're playing silly b&ggers with the perm sec. That is so not a good idea: trust me on this.
