I have painted the handle on my M3 knife with humbrol enamel paints, and that seems to be sticking well :)

The 1918 turned up today as I was at home decorating the kitchen (Wife's birthday present  ) I got to play with it.
First impressions, very well packed and thought out, ergo bugger to open :) the knife is of excellent quality but easily visible as non lethal. A tap on the upper arm with one of these should signify an instant silent kill. The quality is very good and the fit is very comfortable. I gave it a coat of the Zinsser, just because I had it, but on reflection dont think it's necessary.
B&Q do a range of paints labelled as 1829 precious metals, I had some left over from tarting up old frames around pictures for flogging at car boot sales. The one I used here is "Old Gold" and I think the camera pics that up more than the eye, because in real life the colour is very similar to this..

After what Spiers said I looked again and used this as a reference.
The good thing about the B&Q paint is that it is acrylic so very fast drying and quite flexible. The downside is that it will not last, I tried aging it a bit with a soft pencil and it will come off with persistant scratching, but with a ten min drying time and brushes wash out in hot water if done immediately after use, it shouldnt be a problem to touch it up. I'll check next time I'm in there and see if the do an old brass colour.
Thanks for all your help guys :good:

Edit to add to that cold steel killer knife blade look, spray a bit of silicone oil onto a bit of kitchen towel and buff the blade, it looks very nice.

whenever you see me is fine/or dean this weekend.

The Garand bayonet goes on my M1, perhaps could do with a bit more friction, but easily sorted.

Webby, how do you increase the friction to stop the M1 bayonet coming off?

Ok... no problem. I was under the impression that was the correct scabbard for one of these used in WWII.

@major malfunction: What brand paint did you use for the brass part?

Blade should be dulled steel or black with maybe a brushing of silver on the edges of the blade.

Painting the blade might prove difficult alex, chipped paint on the blade would ruin it I think. I've painted the handle on my M3 with enamel paints and it has taken to it, I'm in 2 minds about putting 'blueing' imitation on the blade

I'll find something that will stick, won't look right otherwise! Plus only going to do the very edges...
