I was discussing possiblity of marking a Nerbelwerfer with Pete after playing with the mortars at D-day. I reacon its do able, if a little tricky.

Thats freaky, as lunch time today I was downloading a load of good hi-res Nebelwerfer 41 pic's from the net with a view to building one! I have a long length of drainage pipe and a little caddy trailer which are both asking to be put to good use. :D I reacon it is very do-able.

As another possibility, I've being considering building a 7.5 cm leichtes Infanteriegeschütz 18:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

My plan is to go down the same route as the Gunman Mortars and use Double bang thermobaric's. Another reason why the Le.IG18 could be a good choice as its a howitzer and lofts rounds high like a mortar and would be usable safely as close infantry support. The advantage over a mortar is it would provide the gun crew some protection from incoming fire so it could be brought in close enough to use in an assault. The Gunman mortars couldn't be brought in close enough to be effective before the crew were taken out by aeg fire so they were only really any use for defensive use.

I see your point regarding firing but I think a PAK36 would provide better crew protection and its also lighter framed so would be easier to move. Plus as I said, it has the same carriage as a nebelwerfer so you could make one base and swap the top around as required.

Yep, like your thinking, two for the price of 1. I think the biggest problem is going to be getting wheels of a big enough diameter as modern trailer wheels tend to be pretty small and would look a bit ghey. With the LeIG18 I plan to do an early version with the wooden cartwheels as they are easy to come by and will help make the whole thing light. I would make the main chassis out of wood also which should make it pretty light for 2 guys to pull around. I think the Real steels were pretty light anyway (relativley speaking
)as the chassis is made from thin sheets with L profiles rivited on to make a strong but light ladder frame. Mind you there is not much to the pak36 chassis at all, basically an axle with two scafold bars out the back!

last year me and our kid disscussed a single barrel 20mm aaa gun (flak 36 or 40 i think)

the trailer mounted job, i was thinking a compressor and moveing breech, using air to blow 200 bbs out the barrel per shot , and a hopper feed system, the only problem is air tanks, and the presure required for a good range, would make shots under 30 feet to much to take .

a pak 36 (37mm so not much in it ) firing 40mm moscarts sounds good,

time, money and hard work again though :D

It's something i've been thinking about, and my conclusion was to go with motorbike wheels. They're skinny enough and about the right size, and i could create a vac-form to hide the spokes and make look like a solid hub.

How about '50s-'70s side-car wheels/2CV wheels/modern car 'spare/40mph max' wheels?

I think I'd use something more substantial than a vac-form. A single bb hit could penetrate or at least dint that stuff.

Motorbike wheels?! Didn't think of that, nice idea. I think early pak 36s had spoke wheels anyway, certainly the Russian copy did.

As you say it was trailer mounted so that would make it difficult, plus the gun itself is rather complex compared to a pak36. The reason I chose a pak36 was its simplicity and small size. Plus I thought it would be easy to break down for transport. If it could be made to fire both thermobarics and moscarts we'd be on a winner. 8)

I would make the main chassis out of wood also which should make it pretty light for 2 guys to pull around. I think the Real steels were pretty light anyway (relativley speaking

That is one advantage of the LeIg18 trail, the structure would be strong enough made from wood, unlike the the pak36.

the heavy duty stuff is actually quite strong, and it's no problem to laminate multiple layers together to make it really quite solid, pretty much like GRP, as the thickness isn't an issue unlike on the helmet discussion a while ago.

Along the modern-car spare-wheel idea, something like this with a set of 'town & country' tires fitted would look grand!

I sent a load of details on the LeIg 75mm to Major (including breech diagrams.) , Apparantly it was used for direct support fire quite alot and was also in at Battallion level so quite reasonable to have.
like some of the ideas here :D
