I was just wondering... would it be fairly easy to fit a speaker into a gun? Hide it someplace like the wooden stock which would also serve as a good resonance box, wire it into a battery and make it emit sound effects when the weapon is firing? Something like this:

What kind of a speaker would be needed for the sound to be fairly close in volume to a real shot? What battery would be required for ca 200 shots?

Most pistols and rifles exceed 130db which is often taken as the pain threshold for sound being 140-170db.
That is usually measured at the muzzle. Your ears are some distance away and the sound is projected in the opposite direction so the perceived volume is much less.
The chances of building a suitable speaker and amplifier into a gun and supplying the power to run them are remote.
120db is very loud if you are at a gig, it will take thousands of watts of amplifiers, lots of amps and volts, and a large number of speakers to get that volume.
So what can we do?
You dont need much power to run to 97-100db, the more efficient the speaker the louder it is for any power input. You dont need a high quality reproduction, gun shots are mostly noise. To increase the level by 3db requires twice the power from the amp. Speaker efficiency is very important in sound re-enforcement.
The problem will be that the sounds, at the frequencies you can generate by fitting a speaker into a rifle, are going to be quite directional. If the speaker is in the butt then you and the blokes along side might hear it but those in front, the targets might not.
Like blow back it becomes a waste of power with only you and those in the immediate vicinity knowing what is going on.

It is a problem with airsoft that AEG's sound like angry sewing machines and rifles are virtually silent, most people accept this. However there are a few people experimenting with idea's, I believe Cheeky Chappy is working on a speaker in a ammo box bluetoothed to a control in his mg linked to the trigger. I myself am working on amplifying the sound of the gearbox with a speaker in the ammo drum. Of course most people consider all this faffing around to be a waste of time however I think that anything that can produce a more realistic gaming experience helps with the immersion.

If you can find a viable way of making airsoft rifles sound more like a gun I for one would be interested :good:

I don't need this to be a full 130db blast, 100db would be fine and even less than that would still be ok. Just something better than the dinky "tink" of an airsoft gun. I googled this:

http://www.hyperdynelabs.com/products_e ... laster.php

This is fairly similar to what I'm talking about. The LED for the muzzle flash is not needed, the force feedback can also go and hang (I'm guessing it's more like a console pad tremor than proper recoil) so I don't think I'd buy an element like this. But something similar can surely be put together for less than 50 quid?

Nice find, the size of it limits the number of guns it could be used on, put possibly could fit in an ammo box? MG42 firing on full auto would sound awsome :D

I was thinking about sticking it into a pouch or small pack.
